What did you do to your FJR today?

The swingarm looked great inside, no slop or bearing play. 56k miles on it, I'm the 2nd owner and PO had not had it checked before so I was a bit concerned. I did need to replace pivot bearings last summer.

What did you do to your FJR today?

Took the wheels off to have new PR2's put on. It amazes me what you get used to, like riding with worn rubber and fighting a turn in on a long sweeper etc. The new rubber is like a brand new ride, just goes where I put it w/o effort ! While I was at it, took off and lubed the swing arm and pivot...

    Yamaha Touring Windscreen

I use the factory touring screen on my 08. I also added the laminar lip, especially helpful for 2 up touring. W/o the lip the the pillion gets the hit as the air stream curls behind my helmet. Takes a bit of work but the lip will fit just not quite as well as on the stock shield.

    Bar end weight w/helmet lock

I have them on my 08 which came with the bike when I purchased it last year. Interestingly, I didn't realize that they were primarily helmet locks until I started researching bar end weights a month or so ago. The dealership apparently didn't know either, even when they discovered the keys at...

clutch plate soak and idle speed drop

Thanks all for the replies. I have come to the conclusion that I must have tweaked the idle speed screw when trying to move it out of the way of the clutch cover. The clutch bolts I'm sure are fine. I'm going for a ride and not fretting about it.

clutch plate soak and idle speed drop

Thank you for the reply. Since the idle screw is fairly stiff to turn when attached I didn't think that it would turn while moving it out of the way. Being such a compact space it seemed difficult to affect its routing, but maybe I should take a 2nd look. Didn't touch anything else, just the...

clutch plate soak and idle speed drop

Finished up a clutch plate soak today and found some improvements in shifting. Shifting up into 2nd is still a bit inconsistent & still feels like 2nd is being grabbed every once in a while, other times like butter. What I found interesting is that my idle speed dropped down to 900 rpm from 1100...

    Suspension improvements - 2 UP

Just put in a Hyperpro setup. Under $1000 US, a bit more up here in Canada (exchange rate, arggh ! ). This included the hydraulic preload adjuster. Between the 2 of us, biked loaded up we are 400 lbs and the bike handles really well compared to stock, nice and poised. The preload adjuster is...

Cowichan Bay ride & new Hyperpro shock & pillion test report

A beautiful Saturday run up the east coast of southern Vancouver Island to a quaint little spot called Genoa Bay where we stopped in for a lunch. A shout out to the couple we passed in Cowichan Bay on the black 08/09. The new Hyperpro shock was just sweet, didn't miss a beat with 2 up. Before...

1st Century maintenance, suspension upgrade and general maintenance advice

My Hyperpro rear shock arrived from EPM & now installed. As I've often read here on the forum, you don't realize what you've been missing until you have installed an after market shock. Wow, what a difference ! Its not like I wasn't expecting a big change especially after fitting my last ride...

1st Century maintenance, suspension upgrade and general maintenance advice

Van Isl(Victoria) rider here with my .02 worth. I am expecting my HyperPro shock any day now from EPM for my 08. I purchased the basic shock with remote preload, all in under $1500 Cdn. Spring weight set for rider & pillion. I plan to do the work myself, it certainly looks easier to do than the...

Ignition key hard to remove and insert

I agree, my new to me 08 came with one fatigued key. Had a new made right away. Have been using a drop of pneumatic oil in the key locks which works in this damp north west, but I think the silicone spray is a better idea.

What did you do to your FJR today?

Added a Laminar Lip, took it for spin and liked the result. Now to try it on the OEM touring screen.
