I had a PC5 installed today, this am. I made sure before I went to get it installed I took a 40 mile ride. I did this in town because I was told the PC5 primarily helps on low end acceleration. After the install I of course took the same ride. Here are my thoughts.

1st before install I felt bike took to long to accelerate under 4000 rpm after its a totally different story.

2nd after install the bike was smooth, faster, and more powerful under 4000rpm

3rd in gears 1 thru 4 more power on low end under 4000 rpm

4th under 4000 rpm different bike more sport bike less tourer

5th in 5th gear no change I could tell

6th after 4000 rpm no real difference at all.

7th at higher speeds(80 plus) no real change.

My take is if you want more low end power in the sense of soother faster acceleration buy a PC5. I think this is worth the money ( cost me 269 delivered). I doubt it really added any horse power to the bike I think just by changing the fuel mixture it got more performance out of the bike.

Oh I had my mechanic install it took him less then an hour about 65 dollars to install. If you doubt its worth the money buy one from a place you can return it have in installed take a ride and return it if you think its not worth it. Oh I have 2010 FJR1300. Also no F1 or engine light so far after install so I guess computer does not know its even their and yes O2 sensor was disconnected.

Report back with your MPG, I had a PC3 and lost 10 MPG, great low end pull but the gas mileage was bad.

The standard map that comes with PCV is much better at keeping good fuel economy. Better still get the auto tune as well, tweak to your hearts content. :)

I KNOW THE GUAGE WILL NOT WORK RIGHT FOR FUEL ANYMORE SO i NEED TO FILL HER UP AND THEN RIDE TILL THE LIGHT COMES ON AND SEE HOW SHE DOES. mY NEXT PURCHASE EXHAUST AND K&N FILTER.

I have had four MC in my short life and each has gotten a K&N filter and each time I have felt the MC ran better. They make a good quality filter that allows more air flow while still keeping the junk out as far as I am concerned. I know they are pricey but after four MC and all went smooth I am not a big fan of trying another company.

I think Scooter's question was more as to why a K&N vs say a UNI filter. The UNI filter is cheaper, while offering even better air flow and protection.

To help with the MPG you might consider reconnecting the O2 sensor, HaulinAshe started this and many, including myself have found this to be a really functional workaround.

The other thing you'll likely notice, especially in the hotter months is that the bike runs cooler, in my case (GenII) typically about 1 bar lower because its not running as lean as stock.

Of course if you decide to go with an AutoTune module you'll receive a wide band O2 sensor in the box.

I have never purchased a Unifilter but if members of this forum think its better then I will give it a chance. But I still stand by the fact I have never had an issue with K&N. Of course I have always had cruisers this is my first sport bike so live and learn I guess thankyou for the information. As far as the O2 sensor goes it makes no sense to reconnect it cause then the ecu will be trying to counter the PC5 when it reads to rich lean etc from the sensor in essence they will fight each other. I do not feel th need for the optional module to self adjust as I ride I am happy with the PC5 and the map from power command.

I like this reporting, thanks for bringing it honestly.

I felt like it really helped me in deciding one day if I would want to take the plunge.

Where can I purchase a Uni Air filter? I have 2010 FJR are the air filters for FJR past 2008 universal?
I bought mine at Dannis Kirk for $34, I believe the filters are the same for all FJR models.

If your not going to connect the O2 sensor that came with the PC5 why did you get the PC5 and not the PC III

PC5 does not come with O2 sensor he is speaking about the stock O2 sensor that is wired to the ECU. To get an O2 sensor you need to buy the additional module another 230 or so in cash. I actually new some people were not disconnecting O2 sensor and had a talk with my mechanic about it prior to him disconnecting it. He said PC5 without the extra O2 sensor module does not care about O2 sensor it runs off of what ever map you input no questions asked. If you reconnect the stock O2 sensor then the ECU will constantly be making changes as it reads the mixture and then the PC5 is doing the same to off set those changes for performance. If you did this and started to get better fuel mileage that can only mean that the stock ECU is quicker and the PC5 can not keep up and you are giving up some performance in order to save some gas. Now as far as the O2 sensor module you can buy for the PC5 it also takes readings but the difference is it uses those with the PC5 in order to get better performance vs a stock map, a stock map with no O2 sensor does not change no matter what the bike is actually doing as far as performance goes. I say performance but actually you can input any map you want with the PC5 to get anything you want out of it. As far as buying the PC5 I bought it over PC3 for couple reasons, one its much smaller, two it has more USB ports so can add features later if I feel like it (O2 sensor module), three they are only about ten dollars difference when I looked them up so why not get better one.

No problem I refuse to post positive feed back on any item I do not think earned the feed back. I think the PC5 is a valid product as long as you do in town riding under 4000 rpm. If you live next to open roads striaght out onto them no low rpm riding save your money you won't really see a difference.

Thanks for info I ordered filter plus kit to oil and clean it. I will give it a try. How ofter are you taking it out to clean still 12000 miles per book for stock air filter or more often?

Sine the UNI filter is closer to the off-road foam filters than a paper element filter, it actually works better (blocks more dirt) when it's a little dirty. I just check it periodically and usually just blow it out with air.
