Hi folks

I'm about to bleed my clutch on my AE model. I realise the manual calls for removing the rear half of the bike so you can manually actuate the clutch, but surely I can just do that by turning the ignition on and operating the gear change. When in neutral the clutch is engaged, and when in first (and stationary) it will be disengaged.

Do you see any problem with this as an alternative to removing the swingarm?

Thanks

Gareth

Alternate way to bleed the AE clutch fluid: Take off the slave cylinder and bleed it by pumping it out by hand. Take off the 3 bolts on the slave, put your box wrench on the bleeder screw, stick your drain hose on the bleeder and your ready to go. I hook it up to a vacuum pump as well but it is not necessary. Squeeze the slave cylinder between your thumb and fingers, and turn the wrench on the bleeder screw with the other hand to bleed it. Drain and refill the resevoir with clean fluid 1st. Watch the resevoir and don't let it go dry, it's very small. Only 2-3 bleeds before you empty it! Refill the resevoir 3-4 times and you have bled all the old fluid.

Get a Mityvac. Makes it (and brake bleeding) a simple 15 minute job. Just hook it up to the bleed nipple and keep the reservoir full.

I did the clutch bleed without removing the swing arm. Just cycled bike into first/neutral a few times and rebled. Bike is now smooth as a baby's bottom.

I know it's an old thread, but could someone tell where to find the clutch fluid reservoir on the AE?Thanks

Check your owner's manual. If you've not got one, download it from Yamaha's web site, the USA one is here, for the Canadian one you need to go through a rigmarole starting here.
