New set of Shinko Verge 120 front and 180 rear

Greetings!

I just fixed a set of Shinko Verge and they are OEM size and drove her in city for about 100kms and took her out last Friday for run of 350 kms and found the tyre to be very grippy and no vibration as mentioned by a FJR user on youtube ........ one thing I have noticed is that I am able to take coners very confidentially is it because of the new saddle bags ? New tyres or I have gained better skills not very sure but am enjoying it the cost of the set is $225 including fitting and wheel balancing.

Hey slick:

Sorry to hear of your cornering dilemma. So what's the big secret? Got LEO's on every corner? This is the first time I've ever heard of anyone needing to take corners CONFIDENTIALLY.

Anyway, I'm wondering now, how many miles do ya suppose ya might get outa these tires? Price was right, that's for sure. How's the weather over there?

I have not heard good things about Shinkos. Don't know about prices of tires in Dubai, but here a set of Conti Motions can be had for the same price or close to it, which is what I would do if shopping for a bargain tire.

When I mentioned that my skill have improved from whatI was doing when bbought my FJR last year March ( was very scared as the last motorcycke was a kawasaki vulcan 750 that was for about 6 months and before that the biggest bike was a bullet 500 ) the tyres are very grippy have done about 1250 kms and not very sure of the life will certainly inform the ride quality as a consolidated report ( the metzlers z6 I had before Shinko lasted 12500 kms had to change because of two flats on front and rear they were manufactured in February 2011 and I purchased it Mar 2012 and the tyre did become a little dry and hard and was wrongly advised to keep the tyre pressure at 33 front and rear because of heat ) And the LEOs of UAE and Dubai are a bunch of sweetheart as long as you follow rules and they are fair and just as they are expected. Any Gurus from Hot place in USA please advice if yiu need to reduce tyre pressure during summer ? The typically ride is normally on Friday mornings for about 250 to 300 kms with a bit twisties and a lot of arrow straight road and the speeds vary from120 to 160 kmph . Sorry for going in long winding circles as I still have that stupid grin on my face , I dint fall in love with my FJR when I bought it but was eally scared of the power delivery now after 15000kms am able to handle the beast and enjoy her to bits .

What are the ambient temperatures where you ride? Shinkos have been known as a harder tire that get slick in cold and wet...

Maybe its 130F where you are and the Shinkos are just perfect in that ambient temp??

EDIT: Oh, and congrats on being able to corner at speeds so fast that you are unable to be seen...and to be confident doing that as well...kudos.

You obviously didn't get that one. I was pulling your leg. You said, "... take corners very confidentially." I think you meant to say, "take corners very confidently." We all knew what you meant. Just thought I'd make ya laugh. Anyway, typically, we run our front tires around 40-42 psi. I do this routinely, hot or cold. It helps to prevent the tires from "scalloping," or wearing unevenly. I ride with a Milchelin Pilot Road 3 on the front and Michelin Pilot Exalto car tire on the rear. I currently have the equivalent of 37,000 kilometers on the CT and it should be good for at least another 15000 kilometers until I hit the wear bars.

Check your pressures before taking the bike out. Pressures will increase as the tyres warm up, but don't release any air, the higher pressure stops the tyre from heating up even more.

Most people run their pressures a little over Yamaha's recommendation, 40-41 front (not 39), 43-44 rear (not 42).
