I noticed my front tire is forming a flat spot in the center of the tire. The flat part is a little raised from the rest of the contour of the tire. Tire has about 2000 klms.

Any ideas?

A picture would tell us a lot more than your description. Also, telling us the brand/model of the tire would help. Of course the pic would tell us that as well.

If you are running a dual compound tire, which many of us do, the center hard part will wear more slowly than the softer shoulders. If you are consistently using the perfect degree of lean angle to wear at the junction of soft and hard rubber, you will see the center as you describe.

Again, a pic would tell this forum exactly what we need to know.

Edit: What a surprise! This thread is in NEPRT. Which is the admin's polite and gentle way of saying, "Do a search. This has been answered before. Over and over and...

^^^^ My guess without a photo is this.

I've seen a RoadSmart do this. Apparently the harder, center part of the tread didn't wear as fast as the softer sides. In that rider's case it wasn't from lack of curves. He'd simply worn the sides away faster than the center.

The trapezoidal wear pattern /¯\ is very common for dual compound tires. It is worse if tire pressures are not kept up.

Yeah.

RossKean's diagram and Redfish Hunter's gentle admonition.

Make sure you keep those tires hard as a rock, and search first, ask questions later. (Google: "tire wear pattern site:fjrforum.com" I got 42 hits, including these photos from .... who?)

Thanks for the picture link Uncle Hud, this is exactly what the issue is. I took pictures but not severe enough yet to show up. My tire pressure is 39 psi and the make is Bridgestone BT021. Looks common on some of their tires by the photos I looked at.

Appreciate everyone's input.

P.S. take it easy on the New guys, We'll get it

Cheers.

BT-021 is your entire problem. Bridgestone does make some good tires. The BT-021 is not one of them.

Ozzy, not doing a search is VERY common among newbs and we get it. We will help you but you HAVE to provide us with the correct information. The tidbit about which tire being KEY information.

BT-021 is Arabic for Garbage.

BT-021 is Tunisian for Garbage.

BT-021 is Hebrew for Garbage.

BT-021 is Italian for Lover of Goats. Male Goats.

As soon as it is done, and it will not be long, get a real tire.

Good luck.

A full day of 60mph sweepers in 3rd gear will fix that front tire. You're just leaning on it incorrectly and wearing out the soft parts. Lots of FJR fronts do that. Bridgestone and Dunlop are notorious for it.

Absolutely right for a front tyre on an FJR (ok on the rear). Get rid of it as soon as you can, put one of the preferred tyres (see the poll thread). Your ride will be transformed. Don't worry about mixing makes or patterns or wear between front and rear, it's a non-issue (unless perhaps you are Rossi, who doesn't ride a street bike anyway).

My personal choice is the BT023 or T30 (GT if you are heavy, I am not), but any of the top five is better than the BT021.
