I volunteered to organize a combined Dual Sport and FJR Event in the Black Hills the last weekend of June 2018.

I will continually edit this first post to keep all pertinent information in one place.

I expect that the weather will be in the 80's and there is always a chance of a thunder shower but June is usually one of our better months as far as weather goes.
The Prairies and Hills should be verdant green

This is a gathering to ride the many wonderful roads and trails we have here in Western SD,
https://southdakotari...ctiveridingmap/,

The Dakota Adventure Loop (DAKAL) https://www.dakotaadventureloop.com/ is available in whole or in part for those that choose to ride off the paved path. Check out this video to get an idea of what the DAKAL entails https://www.crossingdakota.com/

I will post some recommended paved and unpaved ride routes in the future.

YAMAFITTER created these Downloadable link to GPS readable formats available in Drop Box here https://www.dropbox....8XSDMjEkwa?dl=0 for the first Black Hills Roundup.

There are few organized activities save for a Steak Dinner on Saturday night in the City Park, there will be a separate thread for dinner signup. I will have several Kegs of local Craft Beer available at the Steak Dinner for those that purchase the "Beer Option".

I will provide a Chilli or some kind of easy to do and keep hot meal for Thursday evening at Bell's, who knows, there might be a Keg of Canyon Cream Ale available as well.

Motel #1 Bell's Motor Lodge is our home base. https://www.bellsmoto...m/amenities.php
RESERVATIONS call (800) 880-2095 Tell Scott you are with the FJR Group.
Despite being 18 months in advance this will fill up fast.

Motel #2 - All Star Travelers Inn, They have 20+ rooms as https://allstartravelersinn.com/rooms/

Kozy Motel Sold, now hydroponic vegetable growing facility, no this is not Colorado, Oregon, Washington etc....

https://visitspearfis...lsmotelslodges/ Most major chains are represented.
Book now as rates will climb as rooms fill up.

The Black Hills, Spearfish, in particular, is a popular tourist destination.

The City of Spearfish has a great city park with shaded camping by the creek. The campground is almost within crawling distance of Rally HQ (about a 10-minute walk when sober) for those that don't want to imbibe and ride. Check out their website https://www.cityofspearfish.com/departments/city_campground/reservations.php and reservation policy. I don't believe tent campers will have any problems obtaining a site or reservation the weekend of the Black Hills FJR Roundup. There are showers/bathrooms etc etc in the campground.

Updated 11/22/17 to fix broken links etc..

Gotta say...shouldn't be any problem getting vacation scheduled this far in advance!

Probably going to be able to make up for the Spearfish trip I plotted but wasn't able to make in 2015! Looking forward to this one.

I'm in and offer any type of help you need John, but I think I'm going to cheat and pre-ride the DakAL this September because I can't wait till next year.

It doesn't matter when you ride the DakAL, just make sure you don't miss the Saturday night steak diinner.....and work the same magic on the steaks that you did in 2015.

Would like to make this as I really enjoyed my visit last time. Be nice to head back. And even though the ride out and back on the FJR gave me some good memories, I'm wondering if throwing the 'Strom into the back of the truck might be the better way to go for this one.

Mike, it would give you lots of options. Not having ridden the entire DAKAL loop, I can't comment first hand, but I know that there are portions of the loop that the Strom will not have sufficient clearance to get through, but....., there are bypasses or alternate routes for those technical sections.

Abercrombie FJR and I are planning on riding the DAKAL in September, will know more after that adventure is complete.

Is that really in or a beemerdons in.JSNS:) :) :) :)
I missed the last one for family reasons and switched to NAFO.

Room booked and at some point, I will tell Michelle about the 1300 or so mile (one way) trip I just signed us up for! Hey John, you all have an airport right?

Hope I can make this one. Guess I shouldn't wait to book a room--- was a guest at the Kozy last time. A bit on the rustic side....

Rapid City (RAP) or Gillette WY may be cheaper, or pick her up in Denver (Cheapest)
