Been cruising the backroads around Baton Rouge lately. Thought I'd share some of the scenery. Except for the occasional storm, the weather's been pretty nice, somewhere in the 50-70 degree range.

Took a tour of Alligator Bayou to set up a field trip for my daughter's school.

Much to my surprise, I discovered a nice little twisty road through the heart of the bayou. It's got tighter turns than I've seen anywhere around here with a speed limit of 20mph for seven miles. There are no guard rails, no camber to the road, and the water comes right up to the edge of the embankment about 5 feet down. Bottom line: DO NOT overrun a turn!

The bayou road runs into the River Road, which parallels the Mississippi from Baton Rouge to New Orleans. This old general store sits at the intersection.

A little further down the River Road, I came across this Jesuit Retreat.

Across the street from the Jesuit Retreat.

Tried to snap a shot for TWN's "everywhere thread, but the shadows were in the way. Guess I have an excuse to take an early morning or late evening ride.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

It's Manchac Rd. It runs through the heart of Manchac Bayou. You can get to it from Hwy 30 on the south end or Hwy 928 (Bluff Rd) on the north end. I found it on motorcycleroads.us

On the north end, they're about to pave the gravel part (a tenth of a mile or so), so you might want to approach from the south side until at least mid April.

Looked like a great day to ride.
How much riding did you get in Vs pictures taken?
2-3 hours of riding vs 15 mins taking photos. Some days I don't feel like stopping, but others I do. This was one of those stop every 20-30 minutes kinda days.
I hear ya. When I go with friends riding and I stop to take pix, it seems like I'm stoipping every few miles and adds another 4 hours to the trip.

Great pix, thanks for sharing them.
