Gents, I am currently on a 03 VFR800 and have previously owned a CBR1100XX, K1200RS and I am now looking at an FJR and would like a bit of advice and maybe some persuation. A local dealer made me a descent offer on a new 07 FJR1300A and taking my VFR in on trade today, but I am also looking at a 2004 FJR W/ABS, kinda high miles for a descent price and then I could keep my VFR as well. So, I'd like to get some feedback on advantages/disadvantages from the Gen 1 to Gen 2 bike, also would anybody be worried about buying an FJR with 43,000 miles on it? (Well Maintained).

Thanks! :D

Discussed multiple times before. My suggestion is to search on +difference +generations +between and similar things to see lots and lots of previous discussion including this and this.

I, on the other hand, am happy to spend the time trying to help you buddy  .

I just sold my '03 K1200RS, had a VFR750 and was considering a new VFR, but decided to spend a few grand more and get the much better (at least IMO) '07 FJR.

First of all, why the heck do you want 3 sport-touring bikes? I'd sell the VFR for sure, and either get a new FJR or a used FJR and a supersport.

As far as the used bike, I'd pass; I'm not a used bike person, especially with those many miles, regardless of condition, but that's just me.

If you get the FJR, you'll probably start thinking of selling the beemer right away; basically the same thing. Again, I'd sell the beemer and buy something else, be it a cruiser or GS, or some other different bike. After riding the FJR, even if I had a BMW dealer around, I'd NEVER spend over 20 grand on a new GT, especially for the amount of riding I do. I could do it, just like I spent $17K on mine, but at that time there was nothing else with ABS and shaft. I just can't justify it now, and fortunately, I don't have anything to prove to anybody. I'm as happy with my FJR as I was with my BMW. And don't be put off by the few problems these bikes may have; you can take care of the majority of them real easy. I'm heading to the mountain tomorrow to see if I have a bad case of surging/stumbling, but I don't think so. Best of luck.

Iggy's 2 linked thread are full of good advice and comparisons of the two iterations of FJR. I would agree with ELP_JC that with those miles (thought it surely isn't "worn out") the deal should be very good, otherwise, buy the newer bike.

I went from an 02 VFR to an 05 FJR. If I could have found some way to keep the VFR, I would have done it!!! I loved that bike and I miss it every day.

Granted I love my 05 and wouldn't give it up for anything!!! Good luck in your search!!

All the rides you stated are great.Read what Iggy's posted.Tons of info.As to the '04 you didnt mention a pricepoint and if there is still a YES in place.I was lucky in my '04 being a non ticker and cheapest purchase of any sport tourer I have ever owned.Just lucky I guess.Wife has always loved the BMW-RT and was shocked when she said the FJR was a go.She was also tired of the expense of maintaning the Beemer. To me the FJR is the best of old school and new tech. You could always wait two more weeks for the new Kawasaki Concourse.Guaranteed to be stupid fast and in high demand.Dealer I know here in Dallas got his two machines in early release and they never hit the showroom

Thanks for the replies guy's Just want to make it clear (ELP) I don't own the XX or K-bike any longer, although I should have kept the XX! But that was a matter of Strong wrist, Weak mind! :yahoo: The price on the 04 is $6500 with givi trunk and Throttlemiester, and no Warranty left. I rode an 07 today and liked it a lot! What seems to be a good OTD price on an 07? I realize that question could raise a stir! Keep the comments and opinions comin!

Thanks!
