Hey, All -

The Yamaha web site under Features - "New for 06" states:

"Taller overall secondary gearing reduces engine rpm for more comfortable long-distance touring."

I've be unable to find the exact ratios anywhere - does anyone know where to find them?

So - does this equate to an incredible increase in fuel mileage? Or perhaps just the equivalent of warp speed? Maybe the addition of Dilythium crystals?

The number of teeth on the transmission's output gear (middle drive gear) has increased to 37 from 36 teeth.

The engine speed for all of the five gears will be reduced by this factor:

New RPM = Old RPM x 36/37 = Old RPM x 0.973

Not a big RPM reduction. They probably changed this gear because it was easy to do and it didn't require a transmission modification -- only one gear had to be changed.

See the following Canadian site for additional details:

At 70mph my 05 turns ~4000 rpm. Deduct 2.7% and we have about 3892 rpm.

whoop de du. I'm glad the bike only has 5 gears.

Thanks for the information, everyone -

And 04 FJR Pilot - I was using my higher math skills, but my neighbor borrowed my step ladder so I wasn't able to get high enough. :dribble: :D
