Tempation got the better of me and I emailed. Its 2 hours at most away from me and I could go get it easily. Guess what, The response came back that it is at a shipping company papers and all ready to go.

The bike is in excellent condition. Never been dropped, laid down, raced or

in an accident. The bike has been regularly maintained. It runs like brand

new with no issues. Clear title! I'm the first owner. The bike and all papers are already deposited at a shipping company.

Where are you located?

-----I’ll come pick up the bike and bring cash. Is Sunday good for you. Which shipping company has it? Location of company? Your phone # so we can talk

I'm selling is because me and my family just moved in Orlando, FL and we need some extra money for our new house. The bike and all the paper is already at the shipping company if you agree for shipping.

Thanks and let me know if you are interested.

------No need to ship I’ll come get it. Just tell me the location and I’ll bring cash.

Any bets on no more response???

Day late bro..

I just drove back from Orlando yesterday after being down there for 12 days. Looks like a scam to me?

JW

The first link could be for real. The guy that sold me my FJR works for Yamaha Corp in Cypress, he was telling me that he was allowed to buy two bikes a year and that he usually buys a new R1 every year. He sold his last R1 to a Baltimore Ravens player and they talked regularly after the sale and the guy was really pleased with the deal. The year of the bike would match, not sure why he's selling it for so little and with such low mileage. Probably no time to ride. I'll send the link to John and see what he has to say.

A Year ago I answered an add in Yahoo Auctions for a 2005 FJR located in Arizona. We agreed on a price and he wanted the money to go into escrow. I wanted to use the escrow company that ebay uses and he insisted on using Capitol One. I went to the capitol one website he listed and checked it out. The swift number listed for Capitol One in Irvine, CA was actually for an account at Fortis Bank in the Netherlands and not a US bank. The owner of the website was listed as Sergio and Olaf in Russia.

It was a very nicely done scam with only a few little mistakes Like the picture of the bike on Yahoo was on a green hill side covered with pine trees. The bike was supposed to be at his house in Tucson Arizona and the address was really a comercial building with no lawns. I wonder how many people sent money to the Phoney Capitol one account.

Don't bother,

After you posted this, I emailed the seller AND GOT THE VERY SAME RESPONSE AND EMAIL AS THE OTHER ADD.

Well :Janet Rusty [mailto:[email protected]] as the first owner, I am sure you don't play for the Ravens.

So since they lived in Orlando this time, SO DO I!

This time we are in Norfolk, Virgini. I guess I'll just happen to be on a trip and can come by and pick it up today!!! Isn't that lucky for me?!

I am swapping the place I am from with the place they say they are to confuse them, as last night they were in Orlando.

How long till they catch on?

I reported both adds to Trader but they have not pulled them.

This **** can't actually work?!? can it?

And Yet ANOTHER ***-HAT!!!!

Hello,

The bike is still for sale. Never had any mechanical problems. I must tell you that I had to move to UK one month ago with my work and I took the bike with me hoping to drive it here as well. I work in Public relations department at a hotel here and because of this job I change my home quite often. Here I had an unpleasant surprise because the bike is an US model and to pay the registration here in Europe, to pass all the emissions and standards and many other would be quite expensive and nobody would do it. I have tried to sell it locally but it was not successfully. That is why I am trying to sell the bike back in USA, there will be no further problems because the bike passes US emissions standards and DOT & EPA as long as it has been purchased in US space. The shipping and handling are included in the price.

If interested please reply asap. Shipping takes 7-8 days.

Thank you for your time.

Your kidding right?

Does this Scam still work? No Seriously I want to know. People still fall for this?

So far you are the 3rd today

The other 2 use this:

BTW You email along with the others will be posted as scammers on all the sportbike boards. Time to spend 5 minutes and get a new one.

I suggest you just start calling Janet Joe.

Anybody want to call Joe at home? The email address for Joe is the one he is using to correspond with cycletrader, too. Note the date of registration. In spite of that, this shipping company must be freaking awesome. In two business days they've gotten dozens of rave reviews from all over the country. Hell, I may buy the bike just for the fantastic shipping I'm going to get!

The Zip Code doesn't match New York, NY. It's for Jamestown, NY. Gregory Court doesn't exist. It's a crime to file fraudulent registration information.

Your buying too. Thats just too damn funny.

How did you bring up janet/ err joe? My properties was blank and would not list a return path?

I wonder how to pass this to the NY internet cops?

Yes, these scams still work. Sometimes, they work well. About two years ago, there was a web site called Barry-Motors.com (later to become Barry-Motors.net, Barry-Motors.biz, etc, etc). They had photos of bikes for sale from all over the country claiming they were available at his showroom in Portland. They also had "free shipping".

I went to the showroom, and it was a house in the suburbs. The owner had no connection to the web site(s).

The web site domains were all purchase using stolen credit card information. I had the San Diego police go to the registered address for the web sites only to have them find the victim of identity theft.

I methodically shut down each web site as they popped up. That became difficult too because most were hosted by companies that were out of the country. One was in Canada (shut down immediately), the next was in Mexico (took 3 days to shut down), one was in Turkey (took about 4 days), one was in Haiti (took nearly two weeks to shut down).

I was also able to very quickly shut down all the Yahoo and Hotmail email addresses being used.

In my 4 months investigating this, I was contacted by nearly a dozen victims. And those are just the ones that were able to find that I was investigating it. A dozen times roughly $3000-$4000 per victim adds up quite nicely. The phone numbers used, all of them, were from pre-paid cell phones. All web sites were from stolen credit cards.

Finally, when I served a subpoena on e-Gold, the financial company that took all the money in, they sent me the IP addresses and bank accounts for all transactions. Needless to say, for a single cop working in a city department, there was no way I could track the money from the Bahamas, to the Caymans, to Russia, to other foreign countries, etc. The interesting thing with each victim is, the suspects went through the trouble of creating a fake shipping company online complete with tracking information, etc. They had a two week estimated delivery and even had maps showing the shipping progress. Thus, when people went to pick up their new bike, that's when they learned they were had, a full two weeks after the transaction. That left them plenty of time to have the money change hands so frequently, I couldn't do it with my resources.

I turned over everything to the US Justice Dept and never heard or saw a thing since.

My guess is, these types of scams are the work of a group of folks worldwide who create, and collect from victims non stop. It is likely highly lucrative, and based on my experience, the chance of capture without an agency willing to actually track them down, relatively risk free. And that's probably while they are still in business.

The sad thing is (or good thing, depending on your outlook), law abiding citizens (or even law bending citizens) would never dream of taking money from other folks. These guys prey on that. They are the scum of the earth.

I just got off the phone with GoDaddy, the hosting company where the shipping company is parked. They were very helpful. It sounds as though they will look into this and may be convinced to shut down the site. I'm going to send them copies of my email correspondence that links the email address at cycle trader to the email address used to register the shipping company on Friday.

I reported the links too, to

Complaint Referral FormInternet Crime Complaint Center

The IC3 aims to give the victims of cyber crime a convenient and easy-to-use reporting mechanism. If you have comments or problems related to the IC3 website, please contact us.

Complaint Status

The IC3 receives thousands of complaints each month and does not have the resources to respond to inquiries regarding the status of complaints. It is the IC3's intention to review all complaints and refer them to law enforcement and regulatory agencies having jurisdiction. Ultimately, investigation and prosecution are at the discretion of the receiving agencies.

But as you see it will go no place and they put it off on the local PDs, who as Pony so well stated, who have not the time, nor rescources to follow up.

Great News!
The bike is back in Orlando! Who wanted it to be in Orlando?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which one?

Don't forget to ask him for an autoghraph from the Baltimore Ravens :D

One other quick thing I noted, was the phone #s listed were not found by google and most were a 6666 or a 9999 type listing
