Rumble Strips

On the recommendation from another thread on this forum I purchased a Rumble Strip for my helmet.

After 400 miles over two days with varied roads (two lane, freeway, city) at varied speeds, here are my thoughts:

Helmet brand: Shoei

Helmet model: Z-II Viking

Windshield: Stock (2005)

Windshield position: Various

Top case: None

Passenger: None

Sustained freeway speed: Avg 80mph

Sustained two-lane speed: Avg 90-95mph

Change in noise level: None

Change in buffeting behavior: None

I couldn't even tell that this thing was installed.

It should be noted that my helmet has vents in the "ideal" area for the Strip to be installed so I was forced to install it on an area just forward of the ideal location.

I've used it. Have had them for many moons. I find that it helps the pillion more than the rider, but I have also benefited from it, especially while on the Wing (the most horrid aero package extent).

Edit: Yo, numbnuts! Move it further forward. You have it placed too far back. It should be at the very topmost part of the helmet.

Since the Rumble Strips didn't work out as I had hoped I'm going to try this next...

Hey, I may be a numbnuts but I can still follow the directions. The included instructions (and the web site) said:

Where on the helmet should the Strip be placed?
Our instructions with the packaging say to find the top of the helmet when you are in your riding position and place it about 2-4 inches behind that.

Still, it works better at the top, IMO. But whada I know? I like to fiddle with my suspension and other weird shit, too.

Different positions for different folks, I suppose.

After reviewing some of the FAQs on the web site it seems that they encourage you to place the strip farther back for noise control and farther forward for buffeting control. Noise was my main issue, so I may have been OK going that far back. Then again, it aint workin fer me.

Nope. Numbnuts can occur at any age.

Try removing your windshield and see if it's still too noisy. If it gets quiet the noise is coming from the windshield air stream. I put two 7/8" spacers under the front mount of the windscreen. It brought the noise level from the windshield a significant amount.

Just on the off-chance that this thing would help the buffeting I get with almost anything but the full down position, I too tried this little gadget.

I agree wholeheartedly with GunMD's assessment:
