Keith,

Looked at the calendar and Last weekend of April is shut for me, wifes birthday.

I would vote for a central location like you said. If we are grilling I can do a thing or two. I would be able to leave Chicago either at the end of the day on Thu or possibly take the whole day and stay there till Mon.

Hey Keith, I'd definitely keep your planning to a minimum. No need for caterer planning or anything like that. Name a place & they will come. If it were me, I'd make planning around a different base camp each night. That allows you to cover a lot of area... but this is your puppy & I won't bellyache about any of it. Besides, a base camp makes the day rides better for those that are afr... uh, don't like to ride w/ loaded bags while twisting.

Thanks for the advice!

I can assure you, this will be a long day of twisties, bags loaded, type of ride!!!! :clapping:

OK, the wife's convinced (Tequila has that effect on her) that we need a long weekend ride in the spring. Anyone else bringing their S.O? 2-up, or no?

Ah, that is a hard question. My wife enjoys riding. BUt our youngest will only be 8 month old. So, not sure if she would be up for this trip. So, most likely solo.

Mrs. Quick doesn't let me leave the state without her.

I can use frequent flyer points for the Four Points Hotel in Lexington.

So we'd be staying there.

*Update*

So far it looks like the best thing to do will be stay at the lodge for the first night. It sounds like the cabins would be a really good option. The second night we will probably be staying at a best western in Marion, VA about 300 miles away from the lodge. I stayed there and the rooms are clean, plus, FREE breakfast buffet. Which was actually quite good!

The next day we will treck back to the lodge, taking a similar, but not the same route. On one of the days there or back, I am working on arranging lunch with a local who has written many books on Appalachain food. I'd like to do it picnic/bbq style at a park so we can all just ride up, eat, digest for a few minutes, then jump back on the bikes and finish the day.

The last day will probably be every man for himself. No plans, just ride if you want. Talk about areas you might want to visit, or take a day to see some of the views at natural bridge before going home. There are tons of hiking trails and a cable ride to the top of natural bridge, which I highly reccomend if you've never done it.

I might plan a third full day of riding, but have yet to decide. We would likely be doing some of the same roads again if we did a thrid day.

Holy long day of twisties Batman

As some can attest, I like a long day of twisties as much the next...I thought this was a western eastern KY ride, now we venture east to western VA...

Don't mind me 'cuz I have not signed up 100% yet, however this may take me out as it will make it a longer trip for me than a long weekend.

Sounds like fun in ANY event, though. :)

Hell Wheaties, we did 400 in one day up in SW WI. You getting old or something?
Hell, I've done much more than 400 in a day. However, if the motel is 300 miles from the lodge, and the roads are really twisty, how many miles are you actually doin' in one day? Maybe I've misread it or something...straighten me out here...Is it 300 miles of riding or 300 miles straight distance from lodge to motel.

Mapquest predicts 8 hours of dirving, the actual trip from start to stop is 300 miles. We will probably be moving at a quicker pace than mapquest calculates.

I think I'm in!

I'm definately doing a multi day spring ride and hooking up with other FJR riders who like the twisties seems like a winner.

I took a multi day multi state trip last spring to TN/VA/WV/MD/NC/KY reaching over into Hazard, KY. Beautiful area, great twisty/mtn roads and little to no people.

Keep us updated with dates, routes, etc.

I'd like the actual routes so I can put them in my Zumo.

Does anybody know how to email/save/transfer the routes/files? I've read that you can save as 2 different file types but only one can transfer. Anyway if somebody can help me with this and/or send the routes/files that would be great.

I do need to know the dates including alternate/rain dates if any so I can put in for time off. I'm in the medical field and have to get a temp to fill in when I'm off. If this is spring break time I'm competing for the time off with limited number of temps.

Thanks,

Steve

Keith, I'm also keeping an eye on this thread and will try to make it up as well. Thanks for putting this together.

Psst: Let's keep this thread on the down low. Don't want them Alabama guys showing up and wrecking a good weekend. ;)
Too late!

Hey, wait a minute. I didn't know KY was regional. Have I been using the wrong one direction?
