I almost wept as I watched my bike get loaded onto a trailer attached to a tow truck today. Its always been " when it rains it flat out storms" with me. I also knew after reading IonBeams Cam Chain woes that maybe I should get this little intermittent top end noise checked out, but...and there's always a friggin but...it didnt really seem too out of line. All my Yamahas have had more top end noise than the Hondas or Kawi's I've owned. I love the cold weather as does my bike and although nothing compared to those up north, our 35 degree cold front suits me just fine. So I jet up to the local Borders for a cup o Joe and a paper perusal and all is right with the world. My Volvo 240 is down with a bleeding water pump and its on its way via the electronic supermarket we all know and love. Its about 2300, or 11pm for you civilians, and I'm maybe 2 miles from my little 1 bedroom abode I call home, making a cloverleaf off of I-10. As I grab second gear I hear the most gut wrenching mechanical clatter I've ever heard from a bike that wasnt in the process of blowing up. It is in time with my throttle inputs and coming from the upper right hand top end...and its LOUD...not valves hitting piston loud but still enough to tighten any and all sphinchters I have. Sounds like what I imagine a cam-chain tensioner breaking might sound like. Its cold and my pacer/defib doesnt seem to like the excitement and shocks me..quite literally..into the now. Well, I know if I stop I'll probably pass out and since I didnt wheelie with the voltage to my heart, I ride him home. I seem to be OK and as I'm uninsured decide against going to the ER. This has happened once before and although painful it subsides very quickly.

I bought the YES warranty and the bike only has 34K on it, much less than my personal ticker  so the bike is at the dealer and we shall see. Oh, and they just called about my old Volvo..they punctured the radiator getting the water pump in <_< . Looks like this is gonna be a good year...at least I aint bored ! :yahoo: I'll keep yas posted.

Too Stupid to be Blue !

I'm Still Blessed,

Bobby(notso)Blue

Man, sorry about the clanging and the pacemaker thingie, I guess that ride could have turned out worse :stun: I'm glad your ok and the bike will get taken care of. I hope you get your insurance situation sorted as well, its a dangerous world out there.

Ride Safe (Once your FJR gets back, let us know how it goes)

Hang in there Bobby, warmer and smoother times are ahead. I bet the 240 is brown....as they should be. Let us know how your '05 turns out.

Wishing you some good news from both sets of mechanix (like "it's F'ed, but we'll fix it on our dime and make it as good as new") . . . and maybe prescribing a little guitar playing for the ticker while you wait.

First off, a big THANK YOU to y'all that sent me good juju ! I really do appreciate it...and Bounce I's hopin to get the jack installed to start ME from the bike !

The bike is fixed and it was the entire camchain tensioner assy that was replaced under warranty...YES just paid for itself and then some ! As the weather is gray and rainey I decided to keep him in the shop and have my new Michelin PR2's spooned on and the coolant and brake fluids refreshed as well. I'll report back on Alamo Cycleplex's performance when they get done. So far, So good !

My Volvo (which is sorta silver HB, but I've owned 2 brown ones! ) was brazed up and no leaks on the new water pump and its still 0-60 in 2 days...balances out the Feejer, no?

This abstinence from the crotch of my rocket has made me realize that I truly need another bike...just an old enduro like an XR250L or an old DR350 Suzuki.... Its always somethin' with us bipeds ! Next thing ya know they'll be laws to make me wash my clothes or change my strings more often...whats that smell ? I gotta go !

Blessings,

Bobby

In these times, folks seem very quick to point out the niggles in life, and I am no exception. But I would like to happily report on the very good service accorded me by Alamo Cycleplex here in San Antone. I know they get a pretty bad rap 'round here in the service dept., so it is with much happiness that they have returned my beloved FJR to me and he is running as quiet as new. This brings me to another point and I cant stress it enough...If your FJR starts makin' ANY unusual or louder than normal top end noises, get that booger checked out pronto ! I was one tooth away from disaster, and my luck held..which for me, is a true blessing. Just thought I'd pass it along.

Blessed,

Bobby

Just keep on ticking. Sounds the bike is ready to roll next sign of fair to partly cloudy. I might be next so I'm trying to keep from laughing.
