Sylvia and I will be in the Phoenix area from March 7th to 14th, and would like to update our HJC Symax helmets. The Symax ll appears to have good venting and an integral sunvisor. Our current Symaxes are still looking good but I try to swap them out on about a 5 year rotation if we're doing any amount of riding...

We're reluctant to order these on-line without a chance to try them on first, and would be happy to support a bricks and sticks store if their pricing is reasonably competitive.

Can any of you Zonies suggest a good helmet store in the area?

Good Morning Dave, Here are the two shops where I buy my helmets at here in Phoenix. I am meeting Greg "SkooterG" Marbach for lunch today (naturally he is not paying for lunch) and I will ask him if he recommends a third outfit. Sorry that I will not see you and Sylvia when you are here; Son Seth and I fly to Dublin on 3/7 AM and return from Ireland on 3/15 PM.

1) The Helmet Harbor, 511 West Guadalupe Road, Suite #4, Gilbert, AZ 85233 480-635-1009 https://www.helmetharbor.com

2) Cycle Gear, 1048 South Country Club Drive, Mesa, AZ 85210 480-969-5555 www.cyclegear.com See you at CFR in June!!

Wow that was fast - thanks Don. Say hi to Scoot for us.

We will be attending a construction conference in Scottsdale and won't have much free time, but we have rented a BMW for a day and will ride with friends on the Thursday (RocketDoc gave us a guided tour of a bunch of his favourite Vancouver Island backroads when this same group had their conference in Victoria last March).

Have a great time on the Emerald Isle and we'll see you in Nakusp!

I too would recommend the Helmet Harbor!

Todd, the owner, has an excellent website that will allow you to research your helmet shopping, and when you are there in person, you can try on the items that you are interested in.

+100 on Helmet Harbor. Todd and Jane Mittness run a terrific business. Excellent service. Even though I live in Oregon, they're the only folks I go to when it comes to anything helmet related (including the 2 new Pinlock Shoei visors - 1 clear, 1 smoke, that I just bought from them...)

What everybody else has said. HelmetHarbor or CycleGear. I have bought stuff from HelmetHarbor before. Great customer service. HOWEVER, they have limited selection in the actual brick and mortar store availalbe. I would call them to see if they have the items you want to try in their showroom. They may order them in for you if they don't.

Also be aware, that depending on where you are located in Scottsdale, HelmetHarbor might be a little bit of a trip to get there. Or CycleGear for that matter. Other than those two, there are just your typical m/c dealerships to try.

Hope to see you when you are here. Let me know if you need any ideas for local day rides.

Where are you staying? And where are you renting the BMW from?

Dave, I know you're very familiar with SkooterG from many previous WFO events that you've attended. Nothing has really changed, if he tries to hump your leg like usual, just swat him briskly with a rolled up newspaper or magazine and he'll stop!

Greg: Shoot me an e-mail with your phone number and when/what time of day would be good to call you: ddykesATwesternsuretyDAWTca and I'll give you a call to discuss. It would be great to see you and I'm also very interested in hearing about your SO's D/S Beemer.

Don: As well as a rolled newspaper I keep a water pistol with me at all times - one or the other will usually work...

Tried to PM you Greg but your inbox is full. Call me at 250-307-7816 or e-mail at [email protected]. Thanks!
Dave
Dave: SkooterG and a number of us left Rocky Point, Sonora Mexico six hours ago. AZ FJR Forum and AZ Beemers spent the weekend there at the Hotel Puerto Penasco del Sol. He had to drop Ali off at her house in North Phoenix. I doubt if he is back home in Gilbert yet. I'll call him on his cell as soon as I finish this post to you and let him know to contact you soon.
