So my new best friend at the local 5-Star Yamaha dealer handed me my recall switch just for the asking.

Since I'm doing the head bearings, forks, blah, blah, it's all apart I thought I'd ask and he acquiesced.

Now I thought I had a copy of the TSB that shows the procedure for swapping out the lock core but I don't.

So if anyone has a copy they are willing to share or can shed light on the procedure please hit me up at: matt (at) dishers.com

Thanks,

-MD

Dont have the instructions for this lock, but if it is like most ignitions, and I think it is, you should find a small hole on the shaft, lined up with keyhole about the depth of the key down the shaft. There is a spring retainer that you should be able to push in with a small punch or other such tool (paperclip will usually work too) while lifting gently on the core. Be careful once you remove this, not to lose any of the wafers inside, they are spring loaded. The best way to do this is to insert a key until you are ready to re-install. If you do not feel the spring loaded retainer in the hole, try turning the key to the different lock positions and retry.

I did it myself too. No big deal. don't bother to drill out the lock set, it's easier just to drill out the bottom screws and just replace the guts.

My dealer is an old friend and recognises that I have more knowledge of the FJR than his mechanic does. Besides Yamaha only gives them 1 hour (at reduced rates) to do the job. Generally twice that I would think.

Yep, that one Iggy.

The deal is done, was harder than it should have been cause my drill press is broke.com. But it's done, switch and lock changed out.

Good deal.

Now if those friggin bearings will showup I'll be golden.

:)
