Patching Roadsmart...anyone else have trouble?

I put a tire plug in a rear RS and it did not hold so I trippled the plug ropes and it still did not hold. Annoyed I dismounted the tire and patched it on the inside like I should have done in the first place. It still leaked just a super slow weep. I am going to get a bigger tougher patch tomorrow but and try again. Now I a really annoyed but I don't want to give up on a 127$ tire just yet. Anyone else have this kind of problem?

I had the very same problem with the only solutions being patch on the inside, use a inner tube or new tire. I had 5,000 miles on the tire so for the sake of safety I put on a new tire.

I had sticky strings fail on me for the first time in about a dozen tries last month (twice). I figured it was because they were too old. An internal patch finally worked for me. Be sure to use a plug/patch type that protrudes through to the outside of the tire.

Did you ream the hole?

Did you use fresh glue?

Are you sure there isn't a second hole?

The times I've seen a leaking sticky string plug have mostly been due to an uneven hole that wasn't reamed clean prior to the insertion, or glue wasn't used on a wet/dirty hole.

What caused the hole? Something uniform like a nail, or ragged like a rock, porcupine quill, debris in the road, etc.

I hear 'dat! ;)

Doing the patch on the side of the road is certainly more tricky and stressful than the convenience of a garage and takes practice and patience.

I'd be skeptical at this point that the composition of PR2's is somehow incompatible with the materials in a typical patch kit. The glue should vulcanize them the same as other tires.

Since I have yet to mount up my first dual compound tire (will do a PR2 in 2 weeks)...I still seem to confuse the two models. I meant the Dunlopy thing and not the Frenchy thing. ;)

It say Made in France right on my Dunlopy thing. But I know what ya meant. The patch sealed it self when I got off work 12 hrs later it was still at the same pressure so I will ride it like I stole it.

 
I patched a Roadsmart a few weeks ago. It was a fairly small, uniform hole. Reamed it out and the sticky worm is holding 42psi nicely.

Glad to see Iggy working on his reading comprehension. "No really, I meant to write down the gallons on that fuel log entry."
