I have experienced some problems with my new to me 06 FJR and I wonder if this could be part of the same problem referred as sudden acceleration in the G2 threads. Sometimes when I accelerate from stop, the engine try to chock and I have to re-clutch,rev the engine up and feather the clutch so the bike take off smoothly. This is VERY distracting. I have owened differennt types of bikes and have been riding for several years (no modern sport bikes though) and this is the 1st time that I have experienced this problem. Any comments é suggestions on what could be the problem and how to fix it?

Also, if I decide to go with the G2, how easy/difficult would be the installation with the Yamaha heated grips. I don`t want to risk damaging the grips

Oh where to start...

New to u: Tell us a story about what you got there, how many miles, condition, whatknot, so we have a clue to go on.

When was it serviced last or did find it on the side o the road?

When you try to accelerate (I assume Wide Freakin' Open), from what RPMs and in what gear? There's a vast difference in engine response when accelerating in 1st gear @ 2,000 rpms vs. 4th gear @ 2,000 rpms.

An engine that hesitates or "chokes" when given copious amounts of throttle indicates other problems. IIRC, the G-2 throttle tube cures "snatchy" throttle, IOW, slight movement of the throttle hand and the bike lurches because the throttles open farther than anticipated (by ratio of turn), i.e., the G-2 actually smooths the throttle transitions.

You seem to be indicating that the engine semi-stalls when given throttle and you need to pull in the clutch and let the engine recover. Vacuum leak? Dirty air cleaner? Whatever?

As Allrider said, we need more information to help troubleshoot the issue.

Gunny, that we need more info to help you out. The first easy thing to check is the idle speed, make sure it's at least 1100 rpm. Low idle speed will cause stalling and lurching until you've become accustomed to the controls feel.

Regarding the heated grips. IIRC the Yamaha heated grips come with a factory throttle tube. You're going to have a difficult time getting the grip off the stock tube as most heated grips are installed with high temperature epoxy and it's not pleasant to get loose.

+1, on the idle speed.

Also make sure there's not too much play in the throttle cable. Too much play, and a stock throttle tube can be a handfull to ride. I don't recall if the snatchy throttle was an issue on 06, but I know it was on 07, and I'm pretty sure they fixed it for 08.

I have the factory heated grips on my 06 AE, and had no problem installing the G2 throttle tube. Just have to be careful with the wires - I used a blast of air from the compressor to help get the grip off the factory tube, and some tire lube to get it on over the new G2 tube.

After checking the other suggested things ie vacuum leaks, idle speed etc you can modify the stock tube if you are good with a dremmel tool. Check my link below and you can see what the difference is in the throttle cam. It's been done before with pictures I just haven't seen it in a while.

Bike is an 06 with 24,000 kms (15,000 miles). Bike has been serviced regularly but it is due for the full 24K kms (15K miles) service. However the previous owner replaced spark plugs, oil (part of the 24,000 kms service) 3,000 miles ago.

Problem happens when taking off in 1st gear and from idle, say on a traffic light. I start accelerating and releasing the clutch and the engine sometimes doesn't rev up and try to stall. It has happened with engine cold and warm.

Problem only happens accelerating from low RPMs i.e. 1st gear taking off. No problems at any other RPMs or changing gears.Air filter has also been replaced regularly

I'm pretty sure that idle RPMs wrere above 1100 RPMs but no way to confirm it for now. Bike has been stored since November and will only see the road again in April (hopefully) This is the "beauty" of living in Canada

I would check for vacuum leaks (as you seem to be describing a lean condition at off-idle).

This sounds like a possible cause. How do I check for vacumm leaks?

I have never played with FI engines but I have heard the term body trottle sync. Is this something that should also be considered?
