I have a FJR Top Case Attachment Kit 5VS-W0720-00-00 which is the rack on which the Yamaha Touring Trunk is attached. I also have a 5VS-Plate-KT steel reinforcement plate which I think is supposed to be attached to the bottom of the touring trunk due to cracking problems. These were given to by the dealer when they replaced my ECU and the Display unit because of service recalls. I don have the Touring Trunk but plan to get one.

Does anyone know how this steel plate attaches to the bottom of the trunk? Do I need anything else to mount the trunk on the bike. Mine is a 2006.

Where us the best place to get a good deal on the trunk? Got week long ride coming up. Laguna Seca to Houston.

I bought the Yamaha Top Case and Mounting kit when I got my new 2007. The metal plate and little foam pad that comes with the mounting kit is only needed if you bought a Top Case before Yamaha came out with the Service Bulletin and kit to fix the cracking problem they were having with the cases. If you buy a new Top Case it will come with the plate and pad already installed so the ones that came with your mounting kit are extra.

BTW, the steel reinforcing plate is attached to the bottom of the case with adhesive. The plate you have should have a peel-off paper backing on one side where it attaches to the case.

You don't need anything else. The case just snaps right into the mounting base.
