Something wrong with this picture(s)?

Was in there the other day and this just struck me as not right, somehow:

This is further up the cables, with the T-bar out (changing plugs).

This bike was had by the shop to be de-ticked, so the cables could easily be routed wrong. Does anybody have a virgin Gen I they can remember if different and, if so, post a pic I can take back to the shop that did this work?

Toe-

I wish you would have posted this 2 days ago because that's when I changed my plugs. I feel like mine has the same setup. I believe the T-bar has a small piece (off the end of the middle of the T) that is there specifically to prevent those two cables from moving?

Hey Toe,

A couple o' things are wrong with that picture. The most glaring problem is there is no bracket for the AVCC!!! Wot?

But on a more serious note, my ('05's) cables don't exit the hard guides at such an extreme angle. I'm sure of that, though I have no photographic evidence to support it beyond this:

Unfortunately, you can't see the second cable in that picture. But you can clearly see the angle of the primary cable and the other one is the same as I recall. As was previously mentioned, there is supposed to be a suport bracket attached to the t-bar for these two cables to hold them at the proper angle.

Looks like both cables need to be replaced because they look to be broken where they meet the 90 degree steel adjustment part of the cable.

that does not look right. Almost looks as if the black and silver parts are interchanged from looking at the angle of them. I also doubt that the cables would run right over top of a bundle of wires. I have an 06 so I doubt that mine would be the same. I hope someone can get you a photo so you can make it right, I'd be afraid to take it back to the dealer that did that fine work.

The silver and black throttle/return cables are in the correct place. There is a missing cable bracket from the t-bar. It looks like the two cable elbows have been crushed downward and the sharper angle has caused the cable sleeves to break.

Note the bracket on the left center of the t-bar:

From the right side of the bike, with t-bar. The brass clamp is the carrier for the cruise control cable on the opposite side of the throttle cables.

T-bar removed:

Your cables are in the right place, but they've been smashed down so they don't exit the angle adaters straight. I imagine you have some binding issues there. One of HiYoSilver's cables has a bit of a kink in it as well.

@Ionbeam: WTF? You running a museum or something?!??! :blink: I know you've had to do a bit of work recently, but Geez!

The cables in the pic above are routed under a bunch of stuff that mine go over. Look how far below the upper T-bar mount they are. Mine are just snuck under it, like they were installed as an afterthought. With "workmanship" like that, and what I found in the crankcase when I got it home, it's no wonder that it's noisy again.... :angry03:

From page 38 of the '04 Supplementary Service Manual:

Pass the throttle cables under the spark plug leads, and the wire harness, headlight lead, main switch lead, right handlebar switch lead, and left handlebar switch lead. Install the thermostat assembly, rubber sheet heat protector, throttle cables, spark plug leads, wire harness and miscellaneous leads, and air cut-off valve and piping under the T-Bar cable guide in the respective order.
