WOW, what a great event…THANKS Scott and Mark for organizing and coordinating a FANTASTIC day! :clapping:
500+ miles of nothing “butt” twisty roads in 12 hours or less! Some would ask why? My answer is because the roads are there, our machines can and the opportunity to meet forum members was available.
One of the great things about the day was that there were several different paces so that “newbies” like myself and my wonderful co-pilot…that’s right, we did it two up :yahoo: …could enjoy the event as well as those who had a more aggressive riding style. Just being able to watch some of the guys handle this great machine made me know that it will be able to handle whatever I ask of it…of course I didn’t see much of them for long but those tail lights looked awesome zipping around corners for the time I did.
Our day started in the saddle at 6:00 that morning in Greenbrier with a 30 mile ride to *******. We arrived at the hotel to meet the group and were welcomed with warm greetings. After a couple pictures and the ignitions firing our machines, we were off.
My first mistake was taking off too close to the lead which held up several riders for a few miles, but it was nice to see them come around and not be too aggravated at "The Twins”.
We caught up with the group at the first gas stop and fell in at the back of the pack this time, I learn quickly. We held a decent pace for half of the route enjoying the company of Wheaton FJR until the junction of SR21 and SR43. At that point we continued on as Wheaton went one direction to find cell service and we went the other, I will let others with more details explain the events.
The roads were challenging and twisty but the recent rain had caused gravel to wash out of many driveways…I HATE GRAVEL!! “The Twins” found our way to ******* just after 6:00 that evening (a little over 11 hours and 532 miles) and were welcomed once again with cheers by those who had arrived before. :yahoo:
After a wonderful Mexican meal and getting to know the group, the coveted Inaugural Twisty Butt Association trophies and stickers were awarded. “The Twins” continued our journey back to Greenbrier arriving at 9:00 with a total of 593 miles on the tripometer for the day and sore, yet oh so satisfied twisty butts! :dribble:
There were several routes provided: 300 miles; 400 miles; 500+ miles. There was no pressure to maintain any certain pace or complete any certain route, ride and enjoy!!
I really never imagined the two of us going the distance…my special thanks to my co-pilot, a trooper, for riding behind me for that distance while only slapping my helmet a few times and patting me on the leg with encouragement for a corner well taken several times!! We are already looking forward to the NEXT Twisty Butt Association event!
