It is my fault.
I should know better by now to follow Bungie but BikerGeek also needs to share in the blame. It started in Ottawa and apparently travelling across the continent and a warmer location did nothing to recalibrate Bungie's sense of direction. Everything started off well but that was because I was in the lead and got us out of Knoxville before the city got locked down for the big NCAA Tennessee / Alabama football game. We stopped south of town for breakfast and I lead us down a little further when Bungie took over. Everything was going well as we stopped in Tellico Plains at the Motorcycle Outfitter to check out some riding gear...
It continued going well for us all the way through the Cherohola Skyway but not so well for a Harley Dresser that was being extracted from the woods. We took a break to get our group back together plus it was time for BikerGeek's & Bungie's smoke break...
While we were taking a break other folks other than the bikes had come out to play...
It was after this that it all went off the rails. The plan in the morning was to just go out on the Cherohola turn around and come back nice and early with lots of time for the group shot and the banquet. Plan B was that Bungie was going to show us a nice road along a lake that would make for nice photo op. At this point the alarm bells should have went off since this was almost an exact re-enactment of the Ottawa fiasco at CFR. After many rides up and down 28, many stops for consultation, much button pushing on the Garmin and additional support from Andy's iPhone (Goggle Maps) we got close but no cigar. By this time I needed some gas if I was to make it back to Knoxville. Since Huron52 wasn't around I knew it would be safe to gas up here...
It was getting late and it was time to get back. Bungie had stated earlier that we would NOT be taking the Dragon back towards Knoxville. I was riding sweep and we were nicely following our track back the way we came until we came to the turn that takes us into the Dragon. Bungie turns right. Oh well. The Dragon was the shortest route back anyways.
We got back just as dinner was being served and if we had come back sooner we would have gotten all caught up in the football traffic s it actually worked out well.
I didn't ake many photos today since the weather was iffy and I was shooting helmet camera video today which I will have to post later once edited.
