Well, I know there are a ton of military veterans among us.... active-duty as well.

So I hope to draw more interest to this event.... Tour Of Honor Memorial Ride

As you can see, I am Rider #38:

My TOH ride is for all my past shipmates - and to my first-born son Tyler, who is now the 7th-generation Wilson who is active duty U.S. Navy. He is currently forward-deployed overseas. Keep the Faith, son!

I'm also riding for me.... I've been there. I was involved in combat operations in the Persian Gulf even before the *first* Gulf War... and then again in Desert Storm itself.

My goal here is to grab all seven Nevada memorial sites within one 24-hour period. Success depends on how the routing plays out once the location of all seven Memorial locations are made known... and that list isn't handed out until Feb 1st.

A cursory review of the Tour of Honor Rider's List shows only 3 other FJRForum members besides myself (beerme, Jerry White and Alex Harper).... we can certainly do better!

Cool. With IL being one of the states I will have to keep this in mind as the season gets closer. Thanks for posting, and for serving.

P.S. - Are there flat spots on the tires of the FJR in the background from lack of use yet? :lol:

No, no...... it was the FJR that got a most thorough workout this past year.... the Busa is the one that laid dormant throughout almost the entire year of 2010.

For 2011, however, it will be a different story.... I'm going to need a lot of these in rear size 190/50-17.... :lol:

How do you decide which LD event gets the Busa and which gets the FJR? What characteristics of each lend itself to a certain event?

Or is it not complicated at all..."Like wow man...I'm takin' the Busa for a ride today dude."

It's a typical Endurance rally format in that you need to photograph your rally towel and your bike near the Memorial in question.

From the Tour of Honor FAQs:

A complete set of rules will be mailed to you along with the t-shirt and rally flag in January, or upon signup after February 1.

Basically, photos must be submitted that include three things: the memorial from an angle similar to that on the website, your rally flag, and your motorcycle. It won't always be possible to ride your motorcycle up to a memorial, and in that instance, two photos must be submitted: one with the memorial and your rally flag, and another nearby with your motorcycle and your rally flag. It should be obvious that your motorcycle was at least *near* the memorial. Your rally flag must be in all photos.

Decisions about evidence of visiting sites will be at the discretion of the organizers and if it's not clear from the photographs, you may be asked to return for new photos. This will be especially critical when competing for trophies.

Thank you sir. Now I just need to decide where I want to get it. I'm in Tennessee so Illinois is closest, but will be cooooooooooooooooooold in February. I can stay on the Florida border if I need to so that may be an option too.

Keep in mind you have from February 1 through October 31 to visit as many sites as you want, with any route you choose.

Personally, I know the snowed-up mountain passes between my home and Nevada won't allow me to even ride there until mid-late April, at the earliest. So scoring a trophy (for being the first in the state to get all 7 sites), that's just not in the cards for me. Someone will have the Nevada sites all wrapped up by then.

Really cool. We were just talking last night about where we were going to ride. This will give us an excuse to explore some new areas.

I want a trophy so I'm trying to figure out the requirements and logistics for the weekend after Feb 1. I'm thinking Florida. I am riding year round but all day the teens will be a bit much I think.

Any advice for a first timer? I'm thinking throttle lock and some kind of cooler/hydration setup like you have in your pic may be a necessity. I'm also thinking four day weekend, not a single day, but that still amounts to probably 500-700 miles/day.

This is something I'll give some serious consideration to. My dad's a Navy vet, just passed away a few weeks ago, and it would be cool to be thinking about him on the ride.

My brother is a Navy vet, too, and my stepson is an active duty Army officer, his wife did her 5 years of Army (where they met, actually) in the early 2000s. My sister was a Marine for a short while (pregnancy got her booted - at the time there were no pregnant marines) and her son was Army, saw action in Iraq. Got lots of folks to ride for, huh?

Sounds like my family. True story - my grandmother told Elvis Presley to "get the hell out" of her store when she was a WAC.

Maybe I'll see you on the road in Florida.
