My buddy and his wife rode out from Park City UT last week so I dropped everything and we rode down to Big Sur and points nearby for a couple of days. Went I-80 from Sacramento to Hwy 37 to Hwy 101 and south over the Golden Gate through San Francisco and onto Hwy 1. Base camp was a cabin about 2 miles up Palo Colorado Rd. near Big Sur. All in all a WAY bitchin' few days!

Here's his wife's VTX next to my baby

I lived in Carmel and Carmel Valley for a couple years a decade ago and know just where you're talking about. Beautiful, and a GREAT ride.

Here's a few more pics.

Yeah it is, I'm down there every chance I get. Love it there.

Evil : Big Sur is one beautiful place I like going there. I like to stay at the state park in there cabins

and dine at the restraunt there. And you can take many of the side roads and see some stuff you have never seen before. The strangest thing that I ran accross was a Monks get away retreat when they have been bad and needed recharging for their faith to get back on the rite side of things. And if you are lucky you can find the original hwy 1 and take that as a nice tour of the interior of the mountain.

Great pics you have there weekend rider :D :D :D

Looks like a great trip.

I'm interested in your rationale for lowering the bars.

How are they?

In a nutshell, comfort and control. I prefer to be in more of a laid down position and I have much better control when I'm getting on it in the twisties. They're also completely adjustable as far as height, width, and sweep. PM me if you want more details.

FJR stuck in the sand? Obviously you forgot to get the instant knobbies like they had on the Ducatti in Mission Impossible

Super pics...hey, "What kind of camera are you using?"

Weekendrider, I have dreams of riding that road sometime. Any links for the State Park and their cabins? And how about some more details about finding the original highway 1? Thanks!

Another question: What's the weather, riding like on Big Sur around Christmas? I may have time to ride out there then as I usually fly out to Pismo Beach on the central coast to see family for Xmas anyway.

Evil henchman, Excellent pics!

Just a Sony Cyber-Shot 3.2 I used to curse it as a POS but after reading the manual it takes pretty good pictures. As for the instant knobbies, well, I'm saving for the rocket launchers instead.

Thanks - just curious - I currently ride a GSX-R 1000, and it is interesting to see a FJR with lowered bars...most FJR bar mods I have seen involve raising the bars... :)

It rains and blows in the winter and believe me, you don't want to ride in it but if you can catch it between storms it's most excellent in December. Or any time in the winter for that matter. The temperure is pretty constant year round, 60's - 70's.

Yes you are evil,

I made it down there last summer, just spent an hour going through the pictures, 32F and Snow on the ground this morning.

Sigh

Chris

It's actually pretty easy to catch 1 between rains if you have some time...the good thing about December is the lack of fog. Sunny days are just that: SUNNY!

The bad thing about 1 in the winter...the odd mudslide could ruin your day. Ride slowly around there when water is draining from the hills.

I been to a fair number of heavenly places for vacation and this spot ranks near the top. The post ranch inn and ventana and tops and wonderful places in the middle of bur sur paradise!
