Fjr1300 For The Leos

German Police from the state of Hessen have taken delivery of their new bikes, specially equipped FJR1300s. Considering that there are many stretches of the Autobahn network where no speeds limits are posted, the German cops went for a bike that combined speed and riding comfort. (BMW's R1200RT is the obvious "also ran" in the competition. Was it just the price difference -- about $3,000 in the sticker price -- that clinched the deal?).

The streamlined utility box replacing the rear seat can be purchased direct from the OE manufacturer but it ain't cheap (the wrong side of $1,000) :blink: .

And we thought the Yamaha top case was outrageously pricey...

Shall we start a group buy for convinced solo riders? :beee:

So, that means that Germany and France have selected the FJR for police related duties. Heck, won't be long and we'll be seeing FJR's in movie chase scenes or the next James Bond movie.

Actually, BMW is VERY agressive in their pricing to the Police, which is why you see most EU PD's ride BMW's. I doubt the BMW will have been more expensive than the FJR, so they must have liked something else about it.

I swore I caught a glimpse of a police bike in London, UK that was an FJR.

Wunderbar, those bikes have some nice farkles. Wait until they stumble across this FJR site. Although, I don't think they'll need the Magnum Blasters

I bet the Polizei will have fun on the Autobahn.

Since the bombing in London I must say I have been looking for the FJR in Police colours in the news file packages and also the camera bikes on the Tour De France racing going on at the moment.

I'm very curious about the alternator and battery setup for the police bikes.

BMW packs a second battery in the US RTP. The RT on which the RTP is based also comes standard with a gazillion watt alternator. All that is required to run the extra lights and radio, computer, downlink equipment usually attached to RTPs. And, of course, the air/oil cooled boxer bikes need to be turned off when officers "do their duty"... since they overheat so badly -- hence the second battery.

Did Yamaha find a way to coax more output from the pathetic stock alternator?

Geez, I hope so. I want to go out and play with the other kids on Winter nights. Can I, mom? Can I?

What a riot! Who gives a rat's backside for the utility case, I want something truly useful like the message display! How about:

Rocket launcher arming...please move aside or risk destruction!

or

You may well have done. The British cop Feejer is pretty unmistakeable

Another two details that may be of interest

* For the first time in 75 years, the German police did NOT choose BMW

* The utility box on their FJR contains the radio and has no bottom, since the radio is bolted to the frame. Bummer.

If FJR's will be use for LEO bikes, the charging system will have to be improved by Yamaha. With all the extra lights, radio and sirens.

Definetly A LEO FJR Needs more Watts than the pathetic stock stator. This is something we have to find a way to follow up on. TJ
