Speed, gear, RPM, and Odometer measurements on an 06

Odometer Error measurements

So the odometer error is about 2.5% fast. And the speedometer is about 5.5% fast on my bike. This means your gas mileage numbers are all off by the same 2.5%. I will probably put a Yellow Box speedo correction device on it and set it at about 4.5% or so.

if is true in fifth gear at 9000 rpm u can reach 171,8 mph or 274 km/h (indicated)

or in third @9000...187 km/h

my gen I max speed is 250 and in third 170 (km/h)

While a GPS is relatively accurate for speed, it tends to underestimate distance. That's because it measures distance as a series of data points saved along the way. You can see these when you view a past track log. When you ride around a curve you may actually go further than the GPS thinks if it snaps a straight line across the curve. Riding in a completely straight line the GPS should be very accurate, but who rides in a straight line all the time? Where would be the fun in that?

A more intuitive way to present the speedo data would be to record the indicated and GPS speeds at a standard set of rpm. Like 3k, 3500, 4K, 4500, 5k, etc. Of course once you know an accurate GPS speed at any rpm in each gear you can then extrapolate what it will be at any other rpm since it is directly proportional. The indicated may or may not be linearly related.

PS - @lele - I don't think you can pull redline in top gear. You run out of power before you run out of rpm.

Fred H. If you want your speedo to be accurate with your GPS put a 190/55 rear tire on your bike. I've done that on two FJR's 2007 & 2014 and the speedo and gps are in sync. Added benefit, you will be amazed how much easier it is to get it up on the center stand.

Nope. Didn't notice.

I believe, from previous threads, that the top speed of the FJR is in and around 155 mph; it is drag limited.

He used to post here years ago. I believe he was an Engineer and posted some good information on the FJR. He moved on to a Connie 1400 if I remember correctly.

I think GEN2 speedometer are far too optimistic than GEN1..

ohh..and GEN3 more than GEN2...
