On a recent repair, I had the airbox open and noticed a small amount of very fine dust coating the back interior of the airbox. It appeared that the filter (stock - replaced about 10K ago) was seated properly. I wiped down the interior and hoped for the best. Normal or do I have a leak somewhere?

Speaking of induction leaks, what's with the drain hose at the bottom of the airbox? The shop manual says absolutely nothing about it, other than noting that it is there in the cable routing diagrams. Is there a filter in the plastic gizmo on the drain line? I'm unclear how they manage to let liquid drain through this hose, but not let unfiltered air in.

Yes, and also one of the reasons I like my Uni filter. No powder when it's used. And that's a check valve on that drain hose. I surmise it drains only when the motors off, which means those with additional fuel supplies run the risk of ingesting water in heavy rain etc due to less frequent shut-down. Might also be a DuckBill type valve, which will allow a heavy substance through while preventing air suction-most cars/trucks have one like it on the A/C Evap drain, and trucks use it on external mount air filter housings.

Thanks guys. I'm more at ease about this. I assumed that drain was some kind of check valve, but didn't see how a check valve could pass fluids. Actually, I wonder how you would ever get much fluid in there - my airbox has no sign of any oil or liquid whatsoever.
