Wasn't there ignition switch issues around that year? Have you checked that out?

Is that a "no crank" or crank without catching?
You may have given up on it but I'm sure a prospective buyer would want to know details.

Cranks without starting, then cranks weakly, then barely. After investigating, a competent Yamaha mechanic believed a new battery and starter would solve what had been a persistent but intermittent no-start problem that had left me stranded a number of times. Possibly a defective Yuasa battery — unlikely, but I’ll get it checked out. Otherwise I’m done!

Battery and starter is definitely what I would have suggested first. Did this change come suddenly?
Frustrating...
Load test battery and then check starting amperes with a clamp-on DC Ammeter. Hope you figure it out (or sell to someone with more patience). Have you had compression checked?
