    Pushed off highway today

After 38 years driving combination vehicles you would be amazed at all the things that I have seen flying around on the highway. Coming up behind and passing a semi on the bike is something that needs to happen fast. Don't hang around large vehicles that block your vision. Vision is limited...

    SE Ohio / W Virginia RAMBLE 4/30-5/03 '15

Here is a good so called short cut for you. In Charleston take I79 north to the Clendenin exit. It might be exit 19. Follow 119 north to Spencer WV and turn left on 33. A couple of blocks turn right on 14 north. Follow 14 to Mineral Wells. Cross over I77 and turn right at the Microtel. If you...

    Pushed off highway today

Ever heard of the five keys to safe driving? Aim High"Aiming high in steering" is the first principle of the Smith System. A driver who "aims high" looks far ahead and further than the drivers around him. Knowing traffic conditions up ahead keeps a driver alert to possible slowdowns. A driver...

If anyone wants a decent place to eat I suggest Mary B's restaurant. It's 3.5 miles north of the Microtel on Route 14. Huge portions and priced right and real close to the local Yamaha dealership. They are called Lemon and Barrets and pretty decent to deal with. Should anyone have need of...

*Update - dates set* 2015 SE Ohio Ramble possible dates

Mineral Wells is a pretty decent area but the only walking distance food will be Cracker Barrel. There are actually 2 strip clubs plus a book and toy store behind the truck stop. If it's the right weekend there will be a cattle auction on Saturday inside the truck stop. Route 14 runs through...

Almost perfect day to Back of the Dragon

I have rough plans to be in the Marion Va area Tuesday afternoon. Planning on crashing somewhere around Bristol. Wanting to find time to check out 421 The Snake while in the area.

    Back of the dragon questions

7 and 20 are rough in spots. I have not been on 250 this summer but it was rugged last year. WV had a tight budget year resulting in lots of spot patching. The roads are catching a lot of abuse from the Marcellus crowd.

    Back of the dragon questions

Not exactly sure of the days yet but I am planning on getting back through there the last week of this month. There have been some discussions with the spousal unit about how both of us are getting to Tn. She won't ride that far and the FJR does not have enough storage for all the outlet mall...

    Back of the dragon questions

I was thinking of my end of 250. Usually I mix 26 north of Marietta to 800 south. Then north on WV 2 to Route 7 to 250. Sorry about the confusion.

    Back of the dragon questions

250 is on my list of roads. It would be pretty easy to tie in with a south east Ohio trip. Have never been on 33 east of Elkins yet. I have to agree with you on 39 and that's a good way for you to get over this way. Have you ever been on WV Route 3? It's got some good sections from Hinton to...

    Back of the dragon questions

I slabbed it down 77 to Beckley. Jumped onto 16 there and worked my way through WV into Va. Time was short after getting to Marion so I slabbed it back up 81 and 77. A lot of the coal trucks have been parked as coal is really slowing down which eased traffic. Stopping for gas in War WV was one...

    Back of the dragon questions

Looks like the weather, the stars, and vacation have all come together finally. Tomorrow I am leaving out of here early to check things out in Va. Anyone know of any must ride roads from I81 north? Planning on staying on 16 to Beckley then slabbing it home. Probably going to be a fast ride...

Laser braking; I wonder if this works for cars behind motorcycles...

Fred some commercial vehicles are using the Eaton Vorad. It has blind spot detection and helps keep following distance using audible and visual alerts and automatically keeps following distance with the cruise control. It also has a lane guidance feature to maintain lane position.

Thoughts after the first month of owning.

Very well said Gary. My last Yamaha was a 2 stroke street bike. If them Japanese engineers could just make the FJR smell like Castrol bean oil it would be perfect.

Thoughts after the first month of owning.

I should have gotten an FJR sooner. Was worried that giving up a sport bike was a mistake. Nope not at all. Just rode double about a hundred miles through severe storms in the dark. Just cruised right through without any issues. Had the wife remembered her rain suit it could have been better...

    Anti bug coating?

Pledge multi surface polish works almost as well as Plexus for fewer dollars. Has anyone tried Bug Slide or Pig Snot wax? They look interesting but expensive.

    600 mile service

Interesting as my usual method for removing drain plugs is to use a boxed end wrench and tap with a hammer.
