    I would bet its the selector drum. But it's probably an engine out, split the cases job. I would be very tempted NOT to run it until this is sorted out...those "graunching noises" aren't making themselves....is there any evidence of metal in the oil? Try removing the oil filter and cutting it...

    What did you do to your FJR today?

    My riding was mostly 1 up as well. Do the rear shock - you won't be disappointed. Any reputable unit is better than stock, as I said, I installed a Nitron but AFAIK WP and YSS have also been used with some success....

    Not got my FJR 1300A anymore but the best thing I ever did with it was to replace the rear shock with a Nitron unit. What a difference. Night and day. S'pose your options are limited with the ESA version, though....

    FWIW, this fault first surfaced in 2017, so it's not going to grenade overnite...but it would always be at the back of my mind. Seem some photos, failure has taken out gearbox, crank, couple of rods and the cases. Not nice.

    Oil analysis

    I think it might have something to do with the filtration "efficiency" of the K&N......the question being asked is "is the use of K&N filters associated with a change in engine wear rates, and if so, which way?". ISO 5011 refers.....
