FJRForum Official 2023 Iron Butt Rally Tracking/Analysis Thread

@thomasgif Thanks for the thorough and interesting comparison. All useful info. You're the 2nd S10 owner I know of that did the IBR on Missions. Incredible mileage for pure moto tires. I had no idea. May have to look at those next time I need tires even though I'm not an IBRer. Good luck on...

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear no major injuries. Curious to hear your thoughts on positives/negatives of the Super Tenere vs FJR or any other bikes you’ve ridden on long distance rallies.

That's a good question. If I'm reading the mileage data correctly, he ended Leg 2 with the same total mileage as he finished the entire Rally with. So he either didn't ride at all in the 3rd leg, or something else happened?

For the 2019 Rally the average was 54.3: IBR Facts I would've guessed it was 50 or so. What's interesting is the increasing age trend.  A 79 YO rode in '15, and finished!

I also noticed there were only 7 FJR, and 3 Super Ténéré. For reasons completely self-centered (I own an S10), and being a Yamaha fan, I thought there'd be more of each this year.

Thinking of moving to the FJR

It's been awhile since your last post here, curious if you've tried out the other bikes and compared to an FJR? FJR still the first choice ?

Very compelling analysis there @SEBeck I'm sure the Rally organizers will want to see that after it goes through some peer review.

Someone's just above San Luis Río Colorado, but hasn't crossed over the border (yet) according to SPOT. Curious to see if that happens and if others follow. ------- EDIT: Nope, looks like they turned north.

11th place guy did 5,291 miles in 3.5 days! IBR's not a distance competition, I know, but 5,291 miles....

.Thanks for doing this. Wasn't surprised at the high number of FJR and GS entries, but historically I thought there were more RT. I know Goldwing has a healthy showing historically, but #1? Wonder if the old RT guys bought the new GW?

Would You Perform 600 Mile Service Yourself?

Do it yourself. It's not hard. Gives you a chance to learn somethin and can be kinda fun with a sense of accomplishment. Take the savings and buy that accessory you will have always wanted.

Cheap sliders? Where to put them?

Had T-Rex on both my FZ1 and R6. Had a pretty nasty track crash on the R6 and the frame came out unscathed. Definitely recommend the brand.
