    Suspension Tuning - It's a Process!

Less preload up front means the front sits lower in relation to the rear. That results in quicker turn-in. Getting ride height balanced between front-rear is one of the most critical adjustments to make. That's why it all starts with spring rates and preload.

    I didn't fall down...

I'm liking Idaho more and more when it comes to Western states for riding. Nice twisties and a lower Bambi Hit Ratio than NC. And Wayne, yet another reason to ride NC instead of VA or Michigan.

2016 Is Official 6-spd, Slipper, LEDs, Analog Tach, Price

I bought a 2016 ES last week. Put the obligatory first 600-miles on her this past weekend running up to EOM and back. As all you old timers who know me from way back can just imagine, I have already amassed a few thoughts with the full intention of spewing them here. I'm going to initially...

    I didn't fall down...

To all the deer hunters in North America... Kill them Bambies, kill them all!!! Because they are all out to kill us first. Stupid Bambi!!!

    NAFO 2016 Official Thread

Just passing through Montrose. Good to see familiar faces and lots of FJRs. Will swap a DRZ400 ride with somebody. :) Just passing through Montrose. Good to see familiar faces and lots of FJRs. Will swap a DRZ400 ride with somebody. :)

    Visited with Grumpy today

Just a quick note to those of you who remember Grumpy. Had the privilege of visiting with he and Snow White both today. They are doing well. Grumpy is working hard to regain motion in both legs, and as he himself put it, Snow White is the driving force that keeps him motivated. I'm sure he...

Welcome to your 70th year of life! (And Happy Birthday my friend!!!)

    Stomach went out my back....

My oldest daughter who is now 23, will gladly take every G-force you throw at her, and always has. BTW... That's her riding pillion on my avatar pic. She was about 15 there and the photo was taken by Killboy on the Diamondback (NC-80 & BRP). I'm a firm believer in teaching them to enjoy riding...

    2007 With Low Miles Question

You are roughly 2.5 hours south of me. I could possibly ride down if you want someone to look at the bike with you.

Light mounts on top of the Mirrors

I can't tell from the pics, but any clearance issue if you are running a +2" wide shield?

Sena SMART Helmet --- Coming Soon

Sena has been pretty darn good about constant evolution and refinement of their BT comm systems (unlike Garmin!). But Sena was also quick to bring their BT product to market and then produce rapid and frequent firmware releases to work through the real-life variables. One of my questions is how...

    It's NOT preload!

Your overall description is correct. But this portion is not "The top cap has the 17 adjuster to press the top end of the spacer/spring down". The adjuster portion is locked on the dampner rod with a jam nut. You really can't study the diagrams and see it. You must take the fork apart to see how...

    It's NOT preload!

I do feel better now. And now you know that there's yet another (internal) adjustment on the FJR forks to putz around with. :) Here's a tip... If you want to play around with the actual preload, slice off two 5mm slices of the spacer tube. Then you can stack them on or take them off to vary...

    It's NOT preload!

I don't care what it's called in the Yamaha manual. I don't care how many times it's been referred to that way. That adjuster on the front forks, up top, the 17mm hex with the lines... IT'S NOT PRELOAD!!! Preload is the tension/pressure that's applied to the fork springs as everything is...

    Dog bone bolts questions

Uhhhh, I'm never politically correct. Sorry!!! How much do you weigh??? If my addition is close, you have lowered the front end by roughly 40mm total (25 in the triples, 15 on the adjusters) and you want MORE!!!??? The *** end of that bike must be sitting on the freakin shock bumper!? So you...

The Jerkiness of Jerky Motorcyle Throttles

It has nothing to do with dialing-in throttle bodies. It's all about EPA emission standards and the ongoing demand for leaner running engines throughout the entire power envelope. The PC-V does what the ECU cannot. The PC-V errs on the side of performance, while the DOT-driven ECU/FI must stay...

The 2015/2016 Big FJR Tire Poll

I have a shrine with two Pirelli Diablo Stradas surrounded by candles and voodoo paraphernalia. If they come back to life, I WILL clone them somehow.

The 2015/2016 Big FJR Tire Poll

I will take the time to both condone and condemn this choice. I know people who ran the Conti-motions on Gen-I and loved them. I ran several sets on my Gen-II and hated every minute. In fact, after I'd made my mind up to never buy them again, I ran one more set just to prove myself wrong. NOT...

The 2015/2016 Big FJR Tire Poll

Hey hey hey!!! Are you saying I'm old, outdated, and no longer relevant??? Well then, I.... guess you're right. Nowadays I'm lucky enough to live where I belong, within an hour of the Blue Ridge Parkway. My hard-earned tax dollars are even being spent on something worthwhile for change, NCDOT...

    Stock Saddlebag Lock Questions

OR, if you are feeling a little light-headed, you can use pink fingernail polish instead of blue loctite. The truly important thing is that if you are too stubborn to learn the correct spelling of the product Loctite, or to use it when it's THE solution of choice, then please be sure to ride...
