Race Motocross; now you're talking exercise. I don't think you'll get fit (or even stay fit) riding to work but mental fitness is another thing entirely.

And PR-5's on the way (early '18). I'm pretty easy on tires (current PR-2's at over 16k), so even if the "5's" are expensive and get good reviews, I may pop for them.

The only number that I have seen on this thread is 37 ft-lbs; this is the initial tightening torque, after that you need to loosen and re-torque to the final torque value of 13 ft-lbs. Forgive me if I missed this important number (somewhere earlier in this discussion).

My first thought was also a skipped tooth in the timing chain.

While I have no data to prove/disprove what Fred says, I also believe, and was going to respond, in kind to Fred's response. Swapping the vacuum lines should be definitive.

I came from a 750 Virago so there was quite a difference but it was still an easy transition. The FJR is pretty torquey so let your wrist dictate how much power you require; very docile below 5,000 rpm, but if you require more power, 'she' comes alive from 5k till redline.

As reserve can vary (slightly) from bike to bike, an owner ought to measure how much fuel can be added (to full) when reserve is first reached. My bike is just about 1.6 gallons when first reaching reserve; I pretty much know my mpg so confidence in fuel to empty is fairly high.

I'd be proud to own either make, and almost bought a Buell way back when; if Yamaha hadn't released the FJR to the U.S. (which WAS in doubt), I'd had a Buell. JMO

Brake fluid doesn't 'play' nice with paint; if some of this fluid is on you tupperware, and you don't have paint damage, this might also suggest fork oil.
