If the collar looks good and the outer race looks good and the needles look good, I would repack the needles into the outer race with sticky grease (I like Lucas 'red and tacky'). Good means no corrosion, pitting, worn surfaces.
If your parts look OK and you did lose needles, but don't want...
Note to self: Check fuel line routing when you're reinstalling the gas tank.
There was a kink in the fuel line exiting the tank due to sloppy routing at reassembly. All fine now.
Always check your work.
There is no 'separator' between the needles on the front(pivot) and rear(shock mount) relay arm bearings. There is a waxy pasty compound that keeps the rollers in place during manufacture and it does hold a minimal amount of lubricant for the bearing contact surfaces. The two middle(dog bone)...
Good questions.. The tank had just hit reserve before I took it off. I thought that could possibly be an issue so I put a couple gallons in today after I found the problem. So the tank was opened at least once. But problem did not resolve itself.
I'll dig a little deeper when I get home...
I recently had the fuel tank off to replace the spark plugs. No big deal typically. the bike stumbled a bit when starting, eventually idled OK. I attributed that odd behavior to a air bubble intoduced into the fuel line from being removed. I went for a short ride, got about 100 feet and bike...
Thank you rPgoat and rbent for including your torque numbers. I completed my all balls tapered bearing install yesterday and took a short test ride and was happy with the upgrade. I torqued the first nut to 14ft-lb and I plan to go back in to check it and adjust it after a few hundred 'break...
For many years and many bikes I had been using grips that are a little larger in the middle and tapered down toward each end. Wasn't a problem for all my previous bikes that I put aftermarket grips on. But my '14 FJR has excellent factory heated grips that I don't want to mess with.
So I tried...

There has been some interest lately about wheel balances, so I made a small batch. See the 'for sale' section over in the outer sand box if you're interested.
FYI I have another one, "A" model available (3-1-2021) It has a new collar and seals at the pivot location. All the original bearings and collars were in good shape on this low mileage piece. $180 plus shipping. PM for more info or photo requests.
I know its a long shot, but I'm looking for a relay arm from a ES model FJR. Getting ready to do a zerk mod on a friends bike and would like to have one ready to go to make the swap easier/quicker. Nothing found on Ebay recently.
thanks for looking
OK, call off the dogs, I may have solved it. when comparing the starter today to pictures I took of it prior to disassembly I noticed the center body of the motor was backwards. Figuring that might have something to do with it, I took it apart and reversed it. Put it back together and it...
