What direction does the starter turn?

I had starter trouble and got it rebuilt.  Then this: So I sent the starter off to a powersports starter guy that Prof 'beam recommended.   I got it back and today reinstalled it in the bike.  Before putting all the other stuff on above it I thought it might be wise to put some power to it to...

    Concours or FJR

Speaking of tires, the Concours eats tires faster than the FJR.   My longtime riding buddy has a 09 Connie.  We've ridden cross country a couple time and countless trips together on the east coast. These things I know.  Gas stops are always determined by the  C14.  C14 requires premium fuel...

Cycleport Ultra 2 mess jacket and pants with liners

I wear almost exactly the same setup described here, except no pants liner.   I assume these garments are the Kevlar mesh version.  Just commenting that I believe Motoport makes a version that isn't kevlar.    I can attest that this setup wears like iron (toughness, not comfort).  I've worn my...

    New progect

Be careful removing the blade.   On some vertical shaft engines the blade acts as the flywheel as well as the primary finger and toe remover.  If thats the case it will be hard if not impossible to start. DAHIKT. And I love the little tab at the back acting like a trailer hitch.  Sweet!

Best riding weather for ID, WY, and MT

I've ridden up that way only twice and both were in September.  (2009 and 2018)  Weather was perfect.   Still snow visible on Bear Tooth. Some of my personal favorites in that area: Chief Joseph Into Yellowstone from Cody Into Yellowstone from Cooke City Route 93 north of Salmon ID And...

New Bike, time for a new TankBag

I use the SW-Motech EVO Trial bag.  I also have the Heli bar (bridge?) set up.  There is mild contact at full lock position but its never been an issue.  Many thousands of miles with this set up.

    Cruise Control re-occurring issue

I had the rear brake lever pivot gunk up and such on my '05.   My '14 now has a zerk fitting in the pivot shaft, because, ya know, I like those things.

    Garage Door Opener

I tackled this years ago.  Solution was a momentary switch mounted in a discreet location thats easily accessible when on the bike (be creative) and I soldered two 24g wires to the PCB mounted switch inside the remote and ran them to the momentary switch.   The remote is out of the weather under...

    COVID-19 Catch All

Yup, I think about that too.  Perhaps I worry too much, but having 4 broken bones in the last two years and two of them requiring surgery to repair, I am very hospital risk averse  right now. I'm hoping this pandemic is well under control before the meat of our northeast riding season.

    ATGATT - NO MATTER WHAT

Mike,  I've been checking out E bikes also.  Aren't we required to buy a Yamaha model?

    maintainance

I'm remembering the same story as RossKean.   A rider in England had the dog bones fail (metal fatigue I suspect) because they couldn't rotate freely relative to the relay arm. Sounds like a seized collar within the relay arm.    Result:  Tire crashes into subframe, probably locks up and bike...

    Relay Arm w/Zerk grease fittings

There are alot of former Connie owners here.   I had only 3 of them:  88, 98(my favorite) & 99.   Thought is was a great bike until Ionbeam let me ride his 04 FJR.   I new I'd soon be parting ways with the Concours.  That was 2004.  There been a FJR in the stable ever since.

    Relay Arm w/Zerk grease fittings

Getting the bolt out isn't too bad, it just takes time.  and a little cussing. You the same COGnosicator that used to (maybe still) hang around the Concours Owners Group forum?   I used to years ago when I rode Connies.

    Relay Arm w/Zerk grease fittings

Jerry, Referring to the photo on the left:  The left zerk feeds the passage way that the dog bone bearing collar goes through.   That zerk allows you to pack both of the dog bone bearings with grease without removing the collar.  The right zerk connects to the passageway that I add to the relay...
