    Concealed radar/laser detector

Moosehead, thanks for posting those pictures. The Gen II nose is a lot more crowded than my '05 was. As for the LEO comments about knowing who has radar detectors, my police officer friends said pretty much the same thing. So..... maybe I'll reconsider this project. Thanks to all who shared...

I'm 5'5" witha 29" inseam and have no problem moving the bike around on the balls of my feet.

    Concealed radar/laser detector

The LIDAR is why I am considering the laser scrambler as part of this project. Unfortunately, there does not appear to be a lot of space in a Gen II fairing (at least compared to a Gen I) and that's why I was hoping someone may have torn into the fairing area above the headlights to see if...

    Concealed radar/laser detector

I was hoping to put the radar receiver within the front cowl since plastic is transparent to radar. The laser receiver/scrambler would go under the cowl as that can't be concealed in order to see and scramble the laser light. Having a radar detector sitting out in the open would greatly...

    Concealed radar/laser detector

I've been looking into building a concealed radar/laser detector with laser scrambling and wonder if anyone's tried it. One big issue is the available space in the Gen II's front cowl for the radar receiver. If anyone has taken it apart is there room in there for a 3.75x3.15x1.75 module...

    Ignition fix

I just bought an '08 and this looks like a good addition when I put the heated grips and other farkles on over the winter. Sign me up as well. Thanks, Chris.

Putting it away for the winter

Fill the tank with fresh gas and treat it with Sta-bil. Change the oil and filter and keep the battery on a tender, not a low amp charger. If possible put the bike on the centerstand with two pieces of 2x4 under the front fork tubes so no weight is on the tires. Cover and store for the winter.

I called Jennifer today and placed my order. She said she needs one more order before she can ship.

Black Foam Sponge Under Oil Filter

If I was talented enough to post pictures, that's the photo I would have used. And I wouldn't use the cardboard from the oil filter box. Not big enough, doesn't conform to the shape of the piece like foil does, and most importantly, it's not impervious to the oil soaking through to the foam.

Black Foam Sponge Under Oil Filter

Seriously, it is supposed to be there. A helpful tip when changing the oil filter is to remove the screw that holds that portion of the fairing so you can wrap a piece of aluminum foil around that plastic with the foam. When you unscrew the filter the foil will protect the foam from absorbing...

    cleaning windshield

The hydrogen peroxide is the best way to go. The fresher the bugs, the better the fizzing and ease of removal. I make a habit of spraying the front of the bike and the helmet faceshield when I get back from each ride.

    2009 FJR1300 info released!

This sucks. If I wanted black, which I absolutely don't, I would have bought an '08.

    Fork Tube Separation Advice

You can use the inner fork tube as a slide hammer (just don't get crazy). The result will be the washer under the seal will become concave. Get a new washer; it's cheap. Also search for previous threads that include Jestal's brilliant electrical PVC seal installation tool fabrication. You...

    Going in for a physical

All of you complaining about the aging process can do something about it. I'm going to turn 50 next month and I ran (not jogged, but ran) 8 miles yesterday and today lifted weights which included 54 pullups, 105 crunches pulling 100 lbs. up from behind. I can run the mile in 6 minutes 27...

    We Lost A Great Friend

I was on vacation and saw the news this morning. I was so taken back by this that I didn't post right away. Like the passing of Andrew, I'm once again surprised how much I feel for the loss of someone I never personally met. Like most of us, I will miss his wit, humor, and sarcasm and how...

good or bad idea on throttle return spring

That is interesting as I thought static loads did weaken spring tension. I thought it was common practice on cars with high lift cams that during long periods of storage rocker arms would be loosened or the engine would be turned every so often (while using a drill and distributor shaft to get...

    Holeshot Headers with Stock Cans

I beg to differ. It's my understanding that the Gen II added a cat in each muffler for a total of four.
