Going to be a white Christmas.

Dumb winter... doesn't it know there is bike testing to be done?!

My experiment with BMW has taken a downturn

That was the reason for the low miles - bike was strictly a track toy until trade in: The only go-fast mods I can see is this set of mega-$$$ Driven Racing TT Rear Sets, and that hi-tech Quckshifter. Otherwise, bike is stock from the factory.

My experiment with BMW has taken a downturn

New developments! So while waiting patiently for the 2023 MT10 models to arrive, I started doing research for the essential aftermarket luggage offerings. In addition to side cases, I will need a strong, beefy top rack to hold the aux fuel cell. It soon became apparent this was a big problem on...

My experiment with BMW has taken a downturn

I care, because I run in Nevada quite a bit.

My experiment with BMW has taken a downturn

Well, I own a Tracer 900 GT, and it is called a middleweight for a reason. It is a superb machine, but 114hp only gets you so far. The MT10 is 163hp and weighs 467 lbs, wet. The Tracer 900 GT is assumed the role the FJR used to have: carrying wifey on the back for multiday tours. The Tracer...

My experiment with BMW has taken a downturn

Well, the situation has brightened considerably... the regional Yamaha rep informs Desert Valley Powersports today that my Yamaha MT10 in Matte Raven Black has been ordered, and it has a January, 2023 arrival time. Not to patiently wait for it's arrival. This will be a bigger...

If you couldn't have an FJR what would be the next best thing?

After two decades and 4 generations of FJR1300s, I made to leap to the 2020 Tracer 900 GT in spring of last year. I am more than happy with my GT, but I also admit the electronic suspension and electronics package are seriously kick-*** on this new '23 model. If I was in the market to downsize...

My experiment with BMW has taken a downturn

When the bike is well-behaved and not undergoing significant warranty work, it truly is a joy to own and ride. It is almost the perfect solo LD bike for me. But I can't tolerate a bike with this kind of reliability problems. I want the bike to just work for me, but I also don't want to continue...

My experiment with BMW has taken a downturn

Whelp.... I am bumming pretty hard, because my first-ever experiment with a BMW motorcycle has taken a decided downturn. I have just retrieved the bike from Prosser BMW after it's third major warranty repair. 😖 Parking it now as I contemplate its future. First, the Keyless Gas Cap system...

    Tracer 9 back to FJR

After 2 decades and 4 generations of FJRs, my Spousal Unit and I transitioned to the Tracer 900 GT in 2021, it works well for us 2-up on multi-state tours. This model year can fit FJR1300 hard bags, so that and a 40L SHAD topcase, we don't struggle to carry stuff. I thought the bike would...

    Rare winter day

What a crap winter we got going on here in the Columbia Basin of southeastern Washington state- constant fog, freezing rain, or the best of both worlds: freezing fog. Low temps are never an excuse not to ride, but low temps and high humidity will keep the garage door closed for me every time...

    New Bike Choice

Your options increase significantly if don't agonize over a chain. A GPS-driven Pro-Oiler system virtually eliminates chain concerns on a Long-Distance ride:

    2022 FJR?

You say you want to stay with your FJR hard cases? :D The FJR's hard cases fit natively on the Tracer 900 GT : And of course the Tracer is not the massive behemoth that the FJR is in comparison, and that is the whole point! I've taken Spousal Unit Annie over 10,000 miles together on...

    2022 Yamaha FJR

You all are describing why after 20+ years with the FJR, I went with a Yamaha triple for 2-up touring. The Tracer 900 GT weighs just under 500 lbs, and I get to retain a pair of FJR hard cases. 😁

Blast from the Past: Hydration Systems

Still have to fit the drinking tube, obviously, but my footpeg-mounted Hydration System for my S1000XR  is almost set. Long-time FJRForum members may recognize the aluminum base that I have affixed the Yeti jug holder to... 😁  Turns out, it is a direct-fit on the BMW.  Newer members may not...

    End of an ERA

No argument there.  And Annie still wants to go on lengthy rides - but only at 400-miles/day pace, tops. Less, if the winds are howling and she gets buffeted all day. Just two long-ish trips planned for her this summer - the start of the Iron Butt Rally in Provo, Utah in mid-June, and the...

Out with the Old..... In with the New!  Might have to go after a red Yamaha banner. 😃

    End of an ERA

Not this old guy... the ST1100 was the heaviest bike I ever wanted to have, and I only had it because in it's day ('90's, primarily), it was the premier LD machine used in our nutty Iron Butt rallies, etc.  Not the the FJR was a ton less weight, mind you.  But in my case, I don't rally anymore...
