Hope you get it covered under warranty. You could drill out the rivets on the hinges and maybe get it open far enough to get to your valuables. That is the method used to remove the lid for painting.

I tried a RF1200 and had to sell it due to fit issues. I've always used the mirrored shields, and agree that it cuts down on the heat. I was also disappointed that the mirrored shields for the 1200 were a lot lighter than the previous generation.

No definitive answer, but a lot of entertaining replies! Turns out my phone wouldnt fit with a cord attached. (With the cover closed.) I'll just do it like I did with my old one. I have a usb adapter that plugs into a battery tender lead and I just run a usb cord to the tank bag.

I was going to get an adapter to charge/store my cell phone in the storage compartment. Then I read the warning in the owner's manual that the compartment gets "extremely hot" and not to place heat sensitive items in it. Anyone tried this or know how hot it gets?
