Anatomy of Gen III Fly By Wire TPS

The TPS in my Gen I used this type wiper, note that I bent out one of the brushes to show the construction:

Anatomy of Gen III Fly By Wire TPS

For clarification I've added this to the post: Edit to add: The right side pair of wipers go from the bottom of the sensor (idle) up to the top (WOT). The left side goes from the top (idle) to the bottom (WOT). Both right and left resistor tracks had heavy wear from idle to ~40% throttle...

Anatomy of Gen III Fly By Wire TPS

[Pre-Edit -- FU Photobucket, to view the photos you will need to install one of these addons Firefox fix Chrome fix ] Starting in '13 the FJR got a Fly By Wire throttle body system. As part of the TB updates, a new design Throttle Position Sensor was added and moved to the left end of the...

    Brake Bleed sequence on 2014

Nothing. The ECU only looks at the diagnostic plug when the key is first turned on, if the switch shorts after the key is turned on the ECU won't see it. If the switch falls out of the plug there is nothing for the ECU to see.

    Smokers (BBQ - not grilling)

^^^^^ Other sources for Good Meats are the $$$ Prime Butcher in Atkinson NH and best yet $$$$$$ Butcher Boy in North Andover MA. I work dangerously close to Butcher Boy and Pillion often comes home past BB and will stop for Meat Treats. It's not even mid morning and now I'm hungry...

Yamaha Diagnostic Tool (kit) - GenIII

I'll be looking into a Yamaha Diagnostic Tool this winter also. The '13 to '15 diagnostic tool is not the same and not interchangeable with the '16 OBD II tool 90890-03251-00. This is a good overview of what tool 90890-03251-00 does. '01 to '12 diAG '13 to '15 DIAG and a Yamaha proprietary...

    Cautionary Tales about Seth Laam!

All I can think is the rear wheel carrier or brake system fell off the trailer (or something like that disabled the trailer). In these days of ITAR which UPS follows they may not be able to move cargo from one trailer to another.

    Brake Bleed sequence on 2014

The front and rear ABS are separate systems, one can be bad independently of the other. The good news is that I don't remember ever reading about a front ABS failure without some kind of warning. The rear ABS almost always suffers a silent death, it isn't until the rear brake is stomped hard...

    Cautionary Tales about Seth Laam!

I had a critical tire order coming from CA, UPS acknowledged it was late being delivered to me. It took a week to find out that the truck was broken down and in a UPS repair center. It took >2 weeks to fix the truck and leave CA to start the cross country trip. It never occurred to me that...

    Cautionary Tales about Seth Laam!

Sweet words sent to me TODAY, on Labor Day Holiday: I will sleep better tonight and look forward to taking an extra day to enjoy the ride down to EOM. So far, so good. What could go wrong? ;)

    Brake Bleed sequence on 2014

An emergency such as your ABS NOT working when you go to test it by locking up the front wheel? Tuck, drop & roll. Make sure the ABS works, then go find out how your bike reacts and feels on an emergency stop.

    2014 Stumble on accel.

As half a couple you can schedule yourself too. Then when you become a bachelor after self scheduling it is no longer a problem ;)

What did you do to your FJR today?

I forget to mention that coincidence or not, both the front and rear OEM Bridgestone tires were mounted with the bar code directly opposite the air stem. I mounted the Michelins (ya, different brand) the same way. The rear tire took 10 grams of weight, it actually could have been less if I...

Bearing in mind that the ABS is disabled below 7 mph.

What did you do to your FJR today?

My issues are dealer related, the only hardware they didn't screw up during the uncrating assembly were the ~10 fasteners they didn't install at all. The side case pieces seems to have been an issue for several years now.

What did you do to your FJR today?

Took off OEM POS BT023 tires at 4.7k miles. They resisted. Put on PR4 GT tires, they resisted even more. On my '04 I put on non GT PR4s and they were like light running shoes, this time, right away I noticed the stiff sidewalls of the GTs. All kinds of funny noises and weird ride feel went...

    Cautionary Tales about Seth Laam!

Bummer! Thanks for the offer though, I may still take you up on it. A couple of weeks ago while on a NERDS ride we stopped at a gas station/convenience store in the middle of farm country. We went in and scored some water and came right back out to our bike. In that length of time some dung...

    Cautionary Tales about Seth Laam!

Thanks for the offer AJ! Someone just emailed me Seth's cell phone number too. I will give Seth an honest chance on Tuesday, if that turns out ****** shaky then it's on to plan B. You may have mail. Pillion asks, front and back seat reworked?

    Rust

Yes, do try any of the 'rust reformers' they chemically convert the oxidized metal and that's that, no paint needed. Tomorrow or Monday I will complete an autopsy of a Gen III TPS which was replaced and solved a driveability issue for a TX Forumite. It may lead to an easy way to diagnose a TPS...
