    2009 won't start - just a click

Thanks for the help, fellas. I haven't been on-line since my last post...had to walk away as I was a little upset for having to postpone the trip. But, at least it wasn't a write-off. It looks like it was the relay that packed it in and you wouldn't believe how I figured it out. Well, actually...

    2009 won't start - just a click

Thanks for the replay. I'm pretty discouraged right now as I think I have determined that there is a short in the starter...minutes before leaving on a 2 weeks trip across Canada. Here is what I learned since posting: I found the relay and I also traced the heavy gauge wires from the battery...

    2009 won't start - just a click

I've cross posted this btw. This is the kind of day...week, I've been having. Bike is all packed up and about to leave on a cross-country trip and....it wont start. Just clicks. Even when hooked up with cables to a big battery. So, leading up to this I was working on some electrical stuff in...

I'm interested in your opinions, Me, I'm pissed!

Yeah you're being a whiny little nancy-boy. 'Fact that you're bringing something as trivial as that to the forum here is nothing short of tattling. And you're probably doing this only because you know the seller and fellow forum user will see your post and be guilted by it. I hope he tells you...

    Reuben Run #8

Decided I would be too rushed to make the trip, unfortunately. I've canceled my reservation for two nights at Best Western in case people are still looking for last-minute rooms. Give them cancellation # 51502004694 if they say there are no rooms. Have fun, all.

    Gonna do tapered head bearings

I had no idea just how significant a role steering head bearings played but I have to admit, I cannot fully understand why. After all, there really isnt any spinning going on. In fact, under load, you probably do not turn the bars a full degree from side to side. Can someone explain to me how...

    Gonna do tapered head bearings

I've experienced the same thing on my Gen II and found adjusting the compression on the forks makes a night and day difference.

Rear axle not going back together-what am i doing wrong

Well, I was gonna but the thorough step-by-step guide posted by someone here back in 2007 makes me think that it's not an easy job. I already have the steering shaft dropped enough to inspect the top and bottom and damn, they look great so I may just leave well enough alone. I only did that much...

steering head bearing - upgrade and torqueing

So now that my rear axle is back on, I removed the front one in order to change my steering head bearings. This is the first time I've ever attempted this job and alos the first time they have been done on this bike (2009 with 80,000 miles). Up until now, I've followed the "if it ain't broken...

Rear axle not going back together-what am i doing wrong

Well, you were right. What more can I say? I guess I got that spacer confused with my XRL 650 as I was positive thats the part I was missing. I guess this is what happens when you reach 50...but most of you probably already knew that. Thanks for all the help.

Rear axle not going back together-what am i doing wrong

Well, I still need help. I tore the garage apart looking for the spacer and could not find it. I suppose it was kind of a blessing in disguise because in the process, I found another part that had fallen out of the rim when I placed it on the bench several weeks ago. It was another spacer (part...

Rear axle not going back together-what am i doing wrong

Exactly. Believe it or not, I watched two youtube videos on fjr rear wheel removal and both somehow omitted a view like the one in the picture. It probably took me 2-3hours of double checking my doubt before I started the thread here. Probably should have come here first.

Rear axle not going back together-what am i doing wrong

This is a great habit to get into and one I have adopted. However, in this instance I figured I had done this enough times that I didn't need a reference picture. Lesson learned.

Rear axle not going back together-what am i doing wrong

Yup..you nailed it!! Funny thing is, as I was putting it back together, I knew something was missing and thought that collar should be there, but, if you look in that diagram, it's not shown. The washer is listed and I had it installed properly but I keep all the parts together and when it...

Rear axle not going back together-what am i doing wrong

By 'spacers', youre not referring to washers, correct? When I look at the diagram, it looks like the spacers are held in by the bearings. On the rim/hub, the only parts I can see are the bearings that are pressed in. Which part do you think is missing...

Rear axle not going back together-what am i doing wrong

Hi everyone. I've had my tire and axle (and the drive shaft pumpkin) off for several weeks while I do some cleaning/maintenance on my 2009. Today, I changed the tire and attempted to reassemble the rear axle but something is amiss. Everything seemed to go together fine until I started torquing...

Ryan F9 - Short video on tire science

I especially like how each video is a different format. If you ever get the chance to watch his video bio and how he posts these videos while still endorsing FortNine on-line store, it's worth the watch. Apparently he lives not far from me although I've never crossed paths with him.

    Reuben Run #8

Well, I live on Vancouver Island and will be making my annual migration south and attending the Reubun Run (my first), leaving on the 3rd, if you want a riding partner. I'm at sea for two weeks up to the 2nd else I'd leave sooner. I suppose if you or your SoCal amigos need a bed or a garage...
