Ground loop noise is what you have. If so, you probably hear a little when the engine is off, a ton of whine when it is on. All ground points of powered devices should be tied to one point (battery preferred much over chassis). Also, a GLI (Ground Loop Isolator, noted above) cures all ills. -BD

I would recommend the "non-disruptive" solder method: Using a REAL wire stripper (NOT *****) cut the insulation circumferentially around the wire in two places, about 1/2" apart. Using a razor, slit the insulation longitudinally along the wire between the two cuts. Be careful in both operations...

I have an EXO-700 and I have been happy with it. It is DOT and Snell M2005 certified, but the Motorcyclist mag test knocked it for having to stiff a shell, so you may find people here who may shy away as a result. -BD
