    Split: Off-Topic About Customer Service

A happy customer still has to pay his bill. As the servicing mechanic a smile is worth more than a tip. Sometimes a tipping customer feels as though now you owe them special treatment.  Everyone gets taken care of. That smile means more to me personally than a tip does.

    Declining interest in the IBR?

Its not the patch so much as proving to myself I can do it. A happy customer over a successful job well done means more than any material reward. Young guys here at the shop did not even know such a thing as the Iron Butt Rally existed. 2 of them are following the progress via the Iron Butt...

    Declining interest in the IBR?

I'm betting on the younger riders have other things on their mind. Hard to mindlessly text all day on a motorcycle. Myself, I'm planning on getting my IBA number. Some of the effort these riders put in just to keep going is inspiring. And the more senior motorcycle riders generally are pretty...

Google maps says 1 hour and 38 minutes from Chattanooga to Huntsville. This could shake things up somewhat.

I offered another option if needed. Not the best option. I'm in contact.

1st leg statistics are pretty interesting. For example Jim Saul in 55th place covered more miles than 52 riders who scored higher. Penalty or mistake I wonder. Edit: Ahhh... the Florida rider....

Looking for advice on beginner sport bike

All very good advice. I started with dirt bikes long before I had a street bike. Looking back, it taught me how to ride without losing skin. A new rider with no prior motorcycle experience needs a smaller, lighter and easy to handle first bike. The inevitable "OH ****" moment could be tough for...

On 465 from I-65 on the south side of Indy it's probably 1/2 hour to Carmel. And the north side can be bad at times.

The rider on the southwest side of Indy had been there since about 9:00 PM yesterday. First one in town.  Either awful tired, confident or saving energy for the next leg.

My shop bay is literally 150 feet from I-65 south of Lebanon, in. Been hoping to catch sight of one going by. Missed 2 so far. Been looking for FJR,s, the Pan America and the KTM. Unfortunately, I dont look at the right time evidently.

With road construction. A performance award in a construction zone in Indiana will ruin your day.

Notice her license plate #?  "IRNBUM" That took some skill to ride that out. From a new tire to practically nothing in seconds. I don't know how she made it 40 miles on the remains of that tire.

I agree, a 3 generation IBR would have been quite an accomplishment.

KrZy8 Charging and Cooling Fans - Fixed

Ahhhh, there's the open circuit. Glad you found it.

Explain this alternator circuit to me?

Went to that thread. They state black wire goes to ground, red is power. Only uses 2 wires  according to his directions. Which will work if alternator field is powered internally. Somethings not adding up here.

Explain this alternator circuit to me?

I just had another thought. If you remove a battery cable while it is running, (don't do that) the open circuit will cause that alternator to "full field" and charge at max. This plays hell with electronics. Check for continuity from battery negative to engine. Check from frame to engine. I'm...
