    Seeking advice on first FJR

I am 70 years old and have been riding motorcycles since I was 12. I had been riding a 1978 CB 750 and had returned from a trip from Mpls to California when I decided to get a "modern" bike with no chain. I was going to get a BMW but was encouraged to look at the FJR. So, in 2005 I bought a 2005...

Nowthen Tech Day IX April 25th

Mike, I am not surprised at the tech day being canceled.  The virus is keeping us from gathering, especially within the next month or so.  I expect to be out and about when the Governor lifts the orders to remain at home.  I have a 1995 Miata that needs front end work (new timing gear) and so I...

Oil coming out of valve cover

The low oil level light did not come on. The only work I had done this year was to have the front forks and swing arm serviced.  I road the bike from Minnesota to Tennessee this summer and have made several other short trips with no issues.  The bike has about 58,000 miles.  Thanks!

Oil coming out of valve cover

Coming home the other day I smelled burning oil.  As I pulled into the short road to my home, all of a sudden smoke and oil started gushing from the front of my engine.  I quickly check the engine temperature and it was normal...no oil warning light on the dash.  I turned off the engine and...

    The stock seat

After several years of riding the stock seat on my 2005, last year I ordered a Laam. I am very pleased with the communication and turn around time for the seat. I don't have much of my own padding on this boney *** of mine and the Laam distributes my weight in a much more comfortable way...

    Nowthen, Another Tech Day 4/27

Mike and Joy, Thanks for hosting again. You do a great job of hosting this event and I look forward to attending. I can vouch for being one of those bikes that we checked the valve clearance with no adjustment needed. This past winter I took the 2005 FJR to Empire Cycle in Loretto and had...

    Battery

Thanks all for the advice. New battery when bike is out of storage and will have to work on adding miles to the bike.

    Battery

I have a 2005 FJR 1300 ABS with over 50,000 miles and still have the original battery. I do not even know the make of the battery! Each winter ( I live in Minnesota) I plug the bike into a battery tender and that is all I do. Is it common for batteries to last this long?

    MN Tech Day 4/28

Mike, This is a wonderful annual event and I am planning on attending. The problem with coming to this event is each year is that I see something on someone's bike and or they have done something that I think I need to do. The result last year was a custom seat from Laam, (wonderful; and...

    MN Tech Day 4/22

Mike, It was a great day and pleasure to see all that attended. After watching a new bike go down "ouch" parked on soft ground I ordered a Wynpro "Flat Foot" for the kick stand. Food was great as usual! It was helpful to try the Sargent seat and also sit on Brian's Laam seat. I think I am...

    tracking app

I use an iPhone and did not see the SW Connect in the Apple app store. I see that Life 360 is available. Thanks

    tracking app

I checked this out on line and see that they provide clear instructions too! Nice. Thanks

    tracking app

I am planning a trip from Buffalo, MN to New York and Connecticut (stopping at the BMW International motorcycle rally in Hamburg, NY)...they do allow FJR 1300's to attend with no harassment! For this trip I want to use a tracking app so my wife and others can follow my progress. I just...

    The FJR Bird Strike Poll

I hit a black bird and a small starling with the FJR. Once riding up the Northway, in New York by Lake George on a 1200 Super-glide with no windshield, I hit a bee that stung me on the neck; and I also had a June bug give me a fat lip. Now with the FJR I have an extra large windshield.

FJR mechanic recommendation, Twin Cities, MN

Tiger_993 shared that Empire Motorcycle shop in Loretto is a good place. I followed his recommendation and went there for a new rear tire. Good prices and the shop is clean! Guy I spoke to shared that he is a Yamaha trained mechanic. I have also had good work done at Moons Motors in...

    Nowthen Tech Day 4/23

I assisted at TripperMike with swearing and cussing so he could focus on what he was doing with the valve adjustment on my FJR. TipperMike is a wonderful and generous host with his home and skills.

    Nowthen Tech Day 4/23

Mike, Thanks for hosting the Tech day! Regarding the valve check, no adjustments were needed. My bike ran fine and experienced no leaks riding home. Food and company were terrific. It was great meeting everyone and I am looking forward to attending next year. Bill

    Nowthen Tech Day 4/23

I will bring some tools and thank you in advance for the help with the valve check and providing the potential parts needed. It looks like the weather is going to hold and am looking forward to meeting other FJR riders. Bill
