That's the one I used last year in the desert and I'm glad I had it. I've never tried it in a high-humidity situation, but I'm sure if you aren't evaporating as fast, it'll be less effective.

I just leave mine on top of the bike. All my gear is sun faded and well used...nobody's going to take it. Plus, I wear a small, so it doesn't fit most. Worst that could happen is a stupid kid thinks it's funny to take something, but it hasn't happened in 110,000 miles.
