The results from my experiment are in

Starcruiser, I'm glad you enjoy the AE. I have to say that your experiment could not be considered valid in the real world. Alternating up/down shifting is not a real-world occurrence and is definitely biased towards the AE as the A rider has to move his toe alternately above and below the...

Interested in a farkle for a favor? Need a test ride on a FJR

I've gotta chime in on the AE. You do have control with the AE. My problem with the one I drove was that it was very un-smooth. When they get it so it shifts better than I do then I'll consider spending money for it. And the AE doesn't shift any faster than I do when doing clutchless upshifts.

    Engineers or Mechanics?

Software Engineer. Used to work for Sandia National Labs so I was sort of a LockMart employee when they started running it. The scene is a volunteer fire station near Livermore, CA. County training officer: "You don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand this." Response: "But... we...

Bike down, totaled slider, frame damaged, 15 mph

Sorry 'bout your ****oo, Camera. Glad it's nothing that insurance money won't cure. Hope yours covers your gear as well as your bike. I'd say Skyway's aluminum sliders are mostly bling although they'd save some damage in a soft lowside or a tipover. I prefer plastic. Plastic bobbins will...

    NEP throttle lock

I have a NEP on the Connie and VistaCruise on the '05 Feej. NEP works well but I have a slight preference for the VistaCruise. Sorry I can't help with the '06.

Hello ...New Owner In Reno ...RenoJohn is in the house

Welcome Reno. You need to buy the Givi mount for the FJR/V46 and you have to remove that purty stock rack to do so. The trunk mounts and dismounts very easily, but the mount is nothing to look at. The '03 was straight silver but the '04 has the blue tint. Personally I think it's the...

    Need help with choice

As far as ease of maintenance, it's a wash. Oil change easier on the FJR; valve adjustment easier on the Connie. Connie parts are not cheap, probably just as expensive as the FJR. The big savings is the purchase price - 2/3 new and less than 1/2 used. Well-ridden, the Connie is 90% of an...

    finally I have seen it!!

Continuing with the thread hijack, I've got a +4/+3 Cee Bailey on my '05. It increased the size of the still-air pocket and reduced the noise and back pressure, but it's not going to give you a huge pocket of still, quiet air. I've heard that the V-Stream does a better job of that but may do...

    Hot Yamaha

I don't know if it'd be a bridge too far, but it wouldn't be a traditional automatic trasmission. They've already got the computer-contolled clutch and electric actuation of the gearbox. All they have to add is a switch for full auto and the intelligence to shift at the proper time. The...

Muzzy not so bad after all

I'm with fjrchooser, I like the weight loss from using a single can and the price is right. But if Muzzy don't do right by you guys they might do me wrong too. If Muzzy's screws you, maybe we can talk Dale Walker into making a single can version.

Sounds a little steep. Any farkles? YES warranty? Anything to sweeten the pot? You ought to be able to find a new one for less than 1K more.

    '03 F/S on Ebay w/only 200 miles on it - yes, 200

SoCalFJR, you're a skeptic. Service manual on CD? Seems like somebody was selling them in late '04 or early '05. '04 windshield? So the guy buys it in '02 for a trip to AK he doesn't go on but he puts 200 miles on it. Couple years later he gets a windshield and service manual for it...

    Possible comvert

The FJR is good for two-up riding. Not as much weather protection or comfort as a GoldWing but the wife still loves it. She's not as fond of the stock saddle so we're going to be getting a custom. I'm happy with it but ya gotta keep the little woman happy. We don't corner as fast as solo...

    AAA service for a bike

Four years ago I found out they didn't tow motorcycles at that time when I destroyed my rear tire. They were telling me they didn't cover bikes over the phone as I watched a AAA truck cart off a humongous SUV festooned with bicycles and kayaks and a roof rack full of crap. Now they want to...

OK what did you think of the AE?

Rode one in Reno. It was way high on the cool factor, but... It downshifted pretty nicely but unless I was really cranking, upshifts were rough. Unless technique or adjustments would smooth it out, I wouldn't pay for it. Overall, I liked the bike. Power wasn't noticeably lacking, although...
