Hard to decide: FJR vs BMW K1200GT

If you were considering the K12S, there'd be reason to noodle the issue. But the K12GT? Nope, in that case the FRJ is the hands down.... winner unless your are sufficiently wealthy to desire sending an extra $5k to BMW just to keep them in business.... or you'd like to commend them for the balz...

    Gen II Luggage Racks

I got my rack from Gary yesterday, but have not installed it yet. Will likely wait until my revised seat arrives from Sargent. Gary's rack is great, and he provided fast service. Wifey likes it... important because it is mostly for her. :)

    Initiation to the Crash Club

Bad as your muffler looks, try usung a small fine file and progressively finer abrasives, then metal polish.

    FJR Stock Seat

    Signs of the true geek.

    FJR and Golden Section

No wonder installing a taller windshield makes the bike look so funny.

2 separate episodes of Road Rage at night

Interesting thread, but in a case where I was the recipient of another's rage, after getting the license number and making a report to my state police (called 911 at the scene), the police... did NOTHING.

    Oil Sight Glass/Windshiled Renew Product

Oh, I forgot to mention that the FJR shield is way soft plastic compared to my Futura's. After six years, the Futura shield is still more scratch free than my FJR's was after about 2 washes. I carefully soak bugs to soften them when washing, and use a cotton towel... still the FJR's shield is...

    False Neutral Indicator

They merely forgot the bolded. Otherwise good advice: see your dealer.

    Oil Sight Glass/Windshiled Renew Product

Perhaps that's why ever-thoughtful Yamaha designed the bike to hold back a quart of oil when it's changed: so we can see the level and not over-fill. So, some of you actually look at the oil level between changes!?

    two up

My passenger is insisting on some changes to the FJR seat... now in progress. She really likes the Futura seat and seating position. But, for me, it is easier to carry a passenger on the FJR than on anything other than a full tourer like a Goldwing or a Harley FL, and that is why the FJR is...

Countdown till the ride to Daytona

I'll more than cut you a break on that. If it were me and I had access to a trailer, I would tow far enough to make sure that on the return trip I could reach the trailer without running into snow or ice.

    Another Newbie Question

I think jumping right into a string of 500 mile days with a group of LD experienced riders is a poor idea. There is nothing magic about the FJR or any other bike that will allow that *without the possibility of tragic failure.* Now, you *might* be able to do it, but what happens if it tuns out...

final drive lash on 06 FJR

When does it bother you? During curves as you apply the throttle? If so, make sure you gear down rather than rely on the enormous engine's ability to pull from low rpm. HTH.

    The FJR as a sportbike

I can say one thing: the FJR is a LOT easier to do an oil change on than the Futura.

    The FJR as a sportbike

No racing for me. I bought a touring bike for... surprise, touring.

    The FJR as a sportbike

No, no, no. The point is that the FJR is a fat pig and anyone who rides one is gay. Sheesh. Except SprintST, who would be gay whether he rode one or not. :yahoo:

    The FJR as a sportbike

Although I'll admit I fell asleep during your wordy & unformatted response, I did skip to the last line which shows that you still don't get it. I don't care how good a rider you or anyone else is, rider for rider, the FJR will NOT corner like a sportbike will. That is why it is considered a...

    Tupperware Question

If I ever want to clean the radiator on either of my bikes, I'd simply hose it from the front if it was salt I was worried about, or stick the hose up from behing and below if it was accumulated bugs I wanted to get off. I've done nothing of the sort on my 65k miler.

    The FJR as a sportbike

:fan_1: Bingo... we have a winner. That is the counter-point. During normal riding not much will be noticed. It is only when the curves tighten that FJR owners need to keep in mind the limitations of the bike. Yes, like the rest of you, I made the decision that the weight and wheelbase are...
