TIRES?? What tires are everyone running on their FJR?

Good luck finding Avon Storm's in the future. From what I read they are going out of business. Avon storms have been my favorite tire since they came out. Going to have to try something different now. GP

    Dunlop Mutant

That's interesting torch. That is the reason I got away from the Michelin PR's. At about 5,000 miles the handling deteriorated and did require more handlebar input. Countersteering. That's when I went to the Avon Storms. I would get 8 to 9 thousand miles out of them and the handling just lost a...

    Rear tire leak

I took it back to the shop to see if they could figure anything else out with it. The kept it for several days and called me to come get it. They said it was holding air. ??? Got it and mounted it back on the bike. If it's leaking it's very little now. Holding air again. Imaculate tire...

    Rear tire leak

I took it for a ride after I reinstalled it. Don't remember how far it was. But still leaking. I may have to try a different tire on the back. Don't think you can get any storm rears now, but they still have the Avon Spirit rears. Just no fronts. From what I'm hearing, Avon was bought out and...

    Rear tire leak

Tried a concentrated amount of dish washing soap this morning and didn't see any bubbles. Still losing air. Rats! Been riding for 50 years and never had a leak like this one. Maybe it's a bicentennial thing. :)

    Rear tire leak

I used soapy water to start with but didn't spray it on. I had a bowl of it and just rubbed it on. I'll try and spray it on tomorrow. Maybe it will show something, but I think the shop i took it too sprayed soapy water on it the first time and saw nothing.

    Rear tire leak

Been there done that already. Bottom 3rd of the tire was submerged which covers the stem when rotated around. No bubbles even when I wiggled the stem around under water. The shop I used, broke the tire down, cleaned up the inside of the rim and replaced the valve, then remounted it. Thought it...

    Rear tire leak

I'm running Avon Storm 3DXM's. My preffered tire. Never had a problem like this with a Storm before, This one just has 2,000 miles on it. Your idea is a more diffinitive, but pricey, way to check it though. Looks like Yamaha doesn't have rims for the 2012 anymore.

    Rear tire leak

I got the tire back and the shop said after cleaning the rim good they remounted it and checked it hours later and no leaking. So I take it home and put it back on the bike. I checked it a few days later and it had lost 20+ pounds. I aired it up to 42psi and checked it the next day. Down to 40...

    Rear tire leak

Good tip Torch, but don't think it would have helped in this case. I completely submerged portions of the tire and rim and then slowly rotated it. Never saw one bubble with 28 lbs of pressure or with 50 lbs of pressure. Craziest thing. Had the tire taken off and they cleaned the tire side of the...

    Rear tire leak

Thanks Ross. I took it down to the shop i use and they were too busy to get to it right away. I had to leave it with them, so I don't know how close they will check it. I told them to break it down and inspect it and change the valve stem just for good measure. GP

    Rear tire leak

I have a leak in my rear tire. After very close inspection by my and a tech at a dealership neither of us could find anything in the tread. We both used soapy water all over the tire and no bubbles. I brought it home and submerged it in the sink up over the rim with 28 lbs of pressure and then...

Considering a 2016 FJR, but concerned about tranny recall.

Check the front tire pressure. It could feel hard and still just have 30 psi or lower. I really couldn't tell much difference in the handling of all 4 of my FJR;s except when the tires were well worn. That could be the case too. How worn were the tires? I had my 2016 tranny recall done last year...
