Which ADV Tourer? BMW GSA vs Super Tenere?

Some of you may have met Nate at SFO, he is Natehawk750 to us FJR folks and Wannabehippy on ADVrider. Nate has been a BMW GS guy for a while, he went from the 1150 to the newer waterhead 1200 a few years ago. Nate crashed that nice 1200 on the Dempster on his way back from Tuktoyaktuk last...

Goodman's are heading to Colorado and Beartooth

Your Ride Report from your last trip out there helped me plan a wonderful Family Vacation. I used your pics and routes to plan my trip and to convince my wife and parents to make that journey. I appreciated that RR then and I still appreciate it now. Hwy 141 is a Good Choice. Don't worry too...

    Linked brakes not so bad

Something Different? I am still trying to figure out if this guy is for real, a troll, or just a **** stirrer. My grouchy friend the bent nail guy does have a point. These lively and entertaining discussions could probably not have occurred had the OP simply RTFM. I thought I was pretty...

    Linked brakes not so bad

I think what he is saying is that the BMW brakes don't do much without the engine running. That right there would be a deal breaker for me. Of course my truck brakes don't do much without the power steering pump providing boost (turbo diesel, no engine vacuum) and that has never bothered me...

    Linked brakes not so bad

Awww man... I already disconnected that brake hose and plugged the hole in the caliper with a whittled stick. Now y'all say it's safe to ride the FJR with linked brakes? I wish y'all would make up my mind. I actually made a decent effort to feel at exactly what point the front brake started...

The one BMW thing I miss

My favorite thing about the BMW is that now I have a motorcycle trailer. Before I got the BMW I never needed a motorcycle trailer. I only take it on short trips though. Just to the dealership and back. And only 3 or 4 times a year. Time on this forum cultivating friendships and positive...

    Engine Didn't Grenade/Something Happened/And Final Report

I had forgotten about the crunched header pipes. It is true that when Patriot got that bike it was in excellent shape. He did not take care of it and did not look after it, he just rode it and did what he knew how to do. Which actually makes Intech's situation all the more confusing. Other...

    Engine Didn't Grenade/Something Happened/And Final Report

There was evidence that the water pump seal was leaking on Patriot's Gen1. He recalled that it had run very hot to overheating on several occasions. It is also worth noting that his motor did not seize or grenade, it was just making a lot of noise. But yes, the rod bearings were worn and...

    F150 Engine recommendations

This is mostly true. You will note however that in spite of the fact that I am not a Ford guy I am realistic and honest in praising their products. Truth be told, it is difficult to find a bad full size pickup in this country right now. They have all come a Long Way. I believe a good vehicle...

    F150 Engine recommendations

My friends I am NOT a Ford fan by any means but I am a realist. My personal favorite Ford engine was the 289. I have some wonderful memories of a first Gen Bronco with a 289, and the old gentleman that always treated me like his own grandson... he loved to watch me shoot. I have some equally...

    F150 Engine recommendations

Fred my grouchy friend, yes I know that the 5.0 is a 302 but the modern 5.0 has no parts in common with the anemic carbureted 302 that Ford was using in the '70s and '80s. The FI 5.0/302 in the late '80s Mustang was a beast for its time but not so much in the trucks of that era. Also, the...

    F150 Engine recommendations

I would like to add another thing to this discussion, and it is purely personal opinion. While the Ecoboost is really strong and really wonderful and is the smartest way to go, it does not sound as good as the V8 option. The 5.0 V8 has a nice subdued rumble from the exhaust, it provides...

    The evils of linked brakes

I do agree with this but... I don't like living in the 2nd Circle of Hell but I got married anyway. Perhaps he bought this motorcycle without knowing anything about it. Perhaps he did no research before he spent his money. He sure didn't understand This Forum had a different set of folks...

    The evils of linked brakes

You call that thing a Truck? More like a Fire Engine. How much does that monstrosity weigh? Over 8,000 pounds? If linked brakes will stop that monster you might just have me convinced. Those very fast guys were probably trying to get away from your annoying ***.

    The evils of linked brakes

Now, now my Grouchy Friend. We mustn't be so judgmental! For my part I am trying desperately to not use this awful linking system. I have stopped using my back brake entirely to prevent the linking. For my ride home today I am not going to use my brakes at all. None. I figure it's better...

    A new chapter

Does this mean that if I crash I won't receive a nice Care Package? Good luck with the next chapter. It is good to be an asset. Hopefully the new owners will treat you as such.

    The evils of linked brakes

Uh-oh. At first I thought you were going "to discuss the matter" but you went all the way to getting "in his face". He probably won't like that. I would be willing to discuss these terrible linked brakes... IF I knew what the point of the discussion actually was and where the evil lies. So...

    Russell Seat "Fix"

I may be completely wrong on this but when Russell seats are built, they don't just use foam from the local Hobby Lobby and cut/fit to shape. They actually have a foam machine that they spray into a custom mold. Therefore "adjusting" a Russell seat will probably not give optimum results. Of...
