Pathfinder's 100,000 (Cert.) Miles in 1 Year Attempt

Out of curiosity, I looked up the average annual mileage for truckers, and it's "only" 45,000 miles in a year. Long-distance trucks will break 100K in a year, though. Still, that's not like doing it in addition to your job, though, since it is their job.

What's the Weather like where YOU are today?

Two or three days in a row of overnight below-freezing temps. Actual warnings in south Florida for falling Iguanas! They get cold, lose their grip, and fall from the trees; it's raining reptiles!!!!

Toecutter hit and run - in rehab

Hit and run should be a capital crime, no matter the actual damage or result!!! People know they did something, and don't f-ing care! Very sorry to see this news, and I'll check his page on FB.

    FJR 1300 Gen1 Fairing Removal

The cold shutoff issue is a Gen-II problem, fixed with recalls I think. As stated before, the head bearing should be sufficiently accessible with the fairing in place, but should you come to a point of removing the fairing, I have a thread for Gen-I fairing removal linked in my sig line. I've...

Pathfinder's 100,000 (Cert.) Miles in 1 Year Attempt

Over 12,000 miles that didn't get certified. Even that's more than most of us!!!! Dayum!!!

    transmission not down shifting

Rosskean has it in the second post. If the shifter doesn't return to center, you can't do the next shift. For some reason, the gumminess shows worse going up the gears, or going down; you can do one but not both. The shifter pivot needs to be cleaned to free up the centering of the mechanism...

    Cars, hurricanes, insurance, and replacements.

I got the wheels off by hammering an 18mm socket onto the lock bolts. They were soft enough the socket went on and then I was able to remove them. Getting them out of the socket once removed was a pain... Socket is none the worse for it, it seems. As for the Miata, it's a ball to drive, but...

    Cars, hurricanes, insurance, and replacements.

Another update to the Merc... Nothing new in the suspension, yet. It doesn't sag, but it doesn't work, either. Haven't done anything, not the flush, not the valve body rebuild, nothing. In the meantime, the blower for the ventilation system died. No fan running. I found that I could whack...

    Some lightning photography showing-off

My cameras are Nikons, a D7000 and more recently a D7200, and using my ancient kit 18-55 lens, old enough to not even have VR in it. I don't worry about white balance until I get on the computer and then correct it in Photoshop, basically randomly sampling the grays until I pick one that gives...

    Some lightning photography showing-off

One of my favorite natural subjects to photograph is lightning. Lightning at night is easy, as long as you're in a safe place and it's not pouring rain. Having the advantage of being near open water, I often can see storms that are quite distant. I don't have the tools to shoot daytime...

    Cars

Up the road towards Ocala, the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing. Just off I-75 a bit south of Ocala. Actually two halls, one side for racing (not just dragsters, although mostly dragsters,) and the other side for antique cars.

    Interesting starting behavior

I agree with the relay. Technically, it's a starter relay, not a solenoid. A relay is a magnetically operated switch, while a solenoid does some physical function (like locking a car door.) FJRs don't have starter solenoids. :) Relay contacts burn over time, creating resistance, making the...

    Turn off

Basically, is there any power? Do the lights come on, do you hear the fuel pump run when you turn the key on? Does everything come on but the starter won't go? Does the starter work but the engine won't fire? Different conditions point to different areas of the bike's systems, so "the bike shut...

    Rehashing early clutch engagement

Check the brass bushing in the lever for wear. It is a wear item, and will wear down in size, which reduces the "throw" of the lever, and the point where the piston into the master cylinder touches it also wears a hole, which again reduces the "throw" of the lever. The pin on mine actually...

    Hurricane Michael, a personal view...

Yeah, some of that looks very familiar, and I have no issue with you posting it. And for HPPants' note about a code clause, I do have that coverage. Some of the code was the boxes the ceiling fans hang from! My blue plastic boxes aren't good enough for a ceiling fan? I can snap breakers into...

    Hurricane Michael, a personal view...

Update... sort of. Absolutely no progress on the house since the roof, but I have a detailed bid from the contractor, and the insurance guy pretty much laughed at it. Literally chuckled on the phone. I insisted on a new report and they sent someone up, and now instead of almost 100K short...

    front Brake scrubbing

Probably old seals not allowing pads to release. Pistons don't retract, drags the brakes. A few years ago I discovered that when off the ground, my front wheel would stop almost as soon as I let it go when I shoved it. After changing the seals, brakes fully release, wheel coasts properly. It...
