    Phantom Blue Matte Paint encounter

Oh, no....that's about $1K of custom-seatmaking you see here. The pillion seat is by Rich's Custom Seat; he is located on the Olympic Peninsula. The pilot seat is from Rick Mayer Saddles, who is no longer in business. So far. the only three items I've tried on this matte paint with good results...

    Phantom Blue Matte Paint encounter

It has now been over 3 weeks since scoring this bike.... today is the FIRST DAY since ownership that I finally get to see my bike in natural sunlight! Oh, HELL, YES!

    2018 FJR Details Released

The factory tires have been the same for a while now, I believe. They are the uniformly excellent Bridgestone Battleaxe BT-023F series. The offer a very nice light, neutral steering, are pretty damn grippy in the dry (tho not of Roadsmart or PR4 parlity), and are decent enough in the wet...

Total Knee Replacement - my experience might help you

This upcoming March will be the three year mark since I had both knees done (same operation). Rehab was a treat. Even three years later, my knees still "click" when walking. It's two clicks per step. It "clicks" when I put weight on it, and "clicks" again when you take weight off. I am sorta...

    Returning to the club

That year paint - Cerulean Silver - is in many ways the finest paint to adorn a FJR, in my opinion. The metallic metalflake in that paint is extraordinary in natural sunlight. Awesome job, Ray!

    2018 seat?

Dan Denchel at Desert Valley Powersports asked if many folks on the forum have a 2018 yet, and I replied that while I am sure someone (else) on the forum has one, there's little chatter/pics of any except mine - that I am aware of. I'm sure that'll change shortly.

Well, now that you've seen the Phantom Blue Matte in person.... comments?

    One week - now parked

Ugh. Roads were bone-dry riding into work at 4am. Didn't stay that way. It melted/evaporated by 2pm... I rode straight home. It's back safe in the garage again. Where it looks like it will stay for a while. Dumb winter...

Trouble down shifting on the Gen3

The observed evidence suggest this is the case. This might be easier to diagnose if we were using two different brass "keepers" (where the clutch slave pin resides once the lever is installed). But in all our experiments, we used the same, OEM brass keeper from the 2018 bike. C'mon, Fred. Of...

Trouble down shifting on the Gen3

All I can say at the moment is that the "C-777 H" model Pazzo Clutch Lever that has been installed and working fine for the past FIVE years on my Gen III FJR, will NOT behave as expected on my 2018 FJR-ES. Why that is... is unknown at the moment. After Ignacio installed it and it still...

    2018 FJR Details Released

It is so cold right now (low 20's) that there really isn't a whole lot of leaning going on needed to put the Cornering Lights to serious testing. Three large CREEs make up a cornering light. When you start to lean - even a little - the first CREE lights up. If you lean further (or, continue to...

    2018 FJR Details Released

This time of year, this far north, all I've ever done is ride this bike at night. When I took it home last Thursday, it was 5:30. I start work in the dark, and leave for home and it's dark. As for lighting - nothing but the FINEST comments to say: I am ready to say the low-beam is at *least*...

    Phantom Blue Matte Paint encounter

Damn, fellas.... perhaps I should put that sticker back on, I wasn't aware of its critical importance! Well.... no.

    Phantom Blue Matte Paint encounter

Good point... I guess I am a Thrillseeker! The more I look at it, the more I like it. It is *vastly* different from clear-coat gloss paint... I always have the high-gloss metallic black tail section, if I feel the need to wax some clear-coat paint. (Latter doesn't happen very often). ;)

Trouble down shifting on the Gen3

Happy news. There is NOTHING wrong with the Phantom Blue bike. Ignacio graciously ran home and grabbed tools, and a spare 2014 OEM clutch lever. I install it, and run down the road a mile or so to check it out. NO acceleration slippage... not even a hint. The Pazzo clutch lever is off my...

Trouble down shifting on the Gen3

I haven't had a chance to look at the bike at all. And I am certainly not terribly incline to rip apart the bike when it is only days out of the crate. *sigh* I am less concerned about the clutch throw, then I am about acceleration clutch slippage. This is certainly way early in this bike's...

Trouble down shifting on the Gen3

I am very unhappy to read about these clutch issues.... don't seem to recall very many from Gen I-III bikes. Sadly, I have one to report also on the 2018 Gen IV, and it is currently PISSING me off to no end. That said--- I have less than 25 miles of the bike, have never ridden it in daylight...
