    Gen 2 Givi Trunk mounting?

Another vote for the SR357. Way better than any adapter plate on the pathetic OEM rack. (and for those that lost track: the Gen 1 needs a Givi SR346 equivalent. Definitely different)

    Side case surgery

No, I never found a video. It turns out my major problem was the hooks had worn way down with years of vibration, so they could pop off even with the bottom (movable) pin was fully extended. I got a set of low-mileage used bags on e-Bay and swapped in the lock cylinders from the originals. One...

    Top Case Wind Buffeting

I have the ever so slightly smaller V56 and have no problems. I do have a larger aftermarket windscreen (Rifle, now out of business) but it makes no difference fully down vs fully up so I don't think it's a factor.

Rear Rack Carrier/ Top Case Mount for 2020 FJR1300

I believe the Givi SR357 will fit that bike (and is stronger than the Yamaha OEM rack), but is only compatible with the Monokey style mount.

    Frozen Horn Bolt

Inductive heater ("Bolt Buster", etc.). A coil of wire surrounds the frozen fastener and heats the fastener alone to near-red hot temps without exposing nearby objects to a flame. Apply your favourite magic elixir, heat inductively, apply more elixir. The heat will help wick the oil into the...

    Update/resolved & thx. —> Tire mount / balance weight(s) question

I use them. I balance the rim first though*, so the beads are only tasked with small imbalances of the tire itself. (DON'T try to balance a tire after the beads are installed. They just roll around in the bottom making any results meaningless). 2oz in an FJR front seems a little excessive...

Difficulty starting with a warm engine

^^^^^^^^ Known problem with the Gen1 starter motors. Fortunately an eBay find from a later low mileage motor will fit and be trouble free. As Ross said, a new battery can mask the problem. I went through a string of batteries, one every year or two, before I realized where the real problem...

    Odometer Error

Compared to my GPS, my Canadian 06 is pretty close on the odometer (depending on tire wear) but definitely reads high on the speedometer by 4-5 kph @ highway speeds. I was told this is an artifact of European regulations since the Canadian speedo is also in kph and uses the same algorithm. The...

    Ticking sound after valve adjustment

Yeah, that's not the infamous Gen 1 tick. And on hearing it, I don't think that's a tiny exhaust leak -- too metallic. That sounds like a valve has a bit too much clearance. Your perception that it is coming from the bottom of the engine may just be the way it is echoing. I'd use a stethoscope...

    Unusual Tire Wear

If there's no chicken strips on the back on the back then you're doing it wrong! <lol> Ok, seriously, it's not at all unusual to see different wear comparing left side to right side, especially on a front tire. Typically in North America we will see greater wear on the right side compared to...

I once heard English defined as "3 continents separated by a common language". <lol>

    Ticking sound after valve adjustment

BTW: the infamous FJR valve tick was limited to early Gen 1 models and developed over time. It could be heard from the upper left of the engine and sounded more like a metallic rattle (some described it as shaking a bag full of cutlery) in the early stages.

    Ticking sound after valve adjustment

Lower front engine does not sound like valves. And while loose valves will make a little clatter, I would not describe the sound as a loud tick. A small exhaust leak can certainly make such a noise though. Get a stethoscope, one with a funnel style end, and carefully check the exhaust pipes at...

    TPMS Mounting

I'll throw this one into the mix, as it IS waterproof and fits the FJR with supplied hardware: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08MPLQVDN It comes with several mounting options, I used the basic band clamp to secure it to the right handlebar on both a Gen 1 and a Gen 2. It is powered by...

    Stop&Go Emergency Tire Repair.

No, they are not sticky at all. Given the way the mushroom head has to be squeezed through the puncture via the insertion tool, I don't think they could re-expand if they were. I do wonder if it would be possible to at least coat the inside of the puncture itself with rubber adhesive. But I...

    Stop&Go Emergency Tire Repair.

Stop&Go calls their product a "mushroom plug". And I guess technically it is. But here it is alongside my favourite tire repair method, a real mushroom plug on the left. Also included in the grouping is the failed plug for reference: The real deal is bonded with rubber cement just like a...

    Stop&Go Emergency Tire Repair.

I punctured a tire on the highway the other day. Not the first time, nor likely the last but I got to try out the Stop&Go kit I started carrying about 2 years ago for the first time. About 15 minutes after stopping for fuel, I noticed something felt odd with the handling, glanced down at the...
